Merry Christmas 🎄

19/12/2025

To our wonderful families, schools and of course children who we have the pleasure of supporting, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.

2025 has been a busy year and the systems we work in can be frustrating and limited, however, seeing the children progress and the joy this brings to their families will always be our driving force in doing what we do.

We look forward to continuing to be part of your child's communication journey in 2026 and also welcoming new families to Hayley Quinn Speech Therapy!

From Hayley, Claire, Jacqui, Alice, Teri and Charlotte 🎄🎄

We accept, we celebrate, we support, we encourage and we love every type of mind. Our days are made fabulous by all the children we support. Block out the noise of misinformed and idiotic individuals who strive to undermine and undo years of progress and understanding. We see you and we will always be your cheerleader!

I am speechless when it comes to Donald Trump and his views and manner of communication... Thank you for this post Autistic Girls Network but it's frustrating that we need it xx

The Education Select Committee has produced an excellent report on ‘Solving the SEND crisis’, published today.

MPs have rejected the idea of dismantling the SEND legal framework and supported our calls for the system to be made to work as it should. Here's a summary:

🔷 MPs support keeping children and young people’s legal right to an education that meets their needs: “Solution can’t be to remove the statutory entitlements from a system which lacks accountability in many other areas and in which parents already have so little trust and confidence.”

🔶 There's a welcome focus on improving accountability: MPs recommend that Ofsted & CQC inspectors look at compliance with the law on supporting children and young people with SEND – and give lower inspection ratings where local authorities are failing children and young people.

🔷 MPs agree with us that the Government must extend the powers of Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman to cover complaints about delivery of EHC plans and SEN support in schools. Time for the Government to finally act on this!

🔶 The SEND Tribunal must remain, say MPs. And Government should “monitor SEND Tribunal outcomes and identify local authorities that repeatedly fail to comply with their statutory duties”. We are cheering!

🔷 And: the Education Select Committee agrees with us that the SEND Tribunal should be able to issue legally binding rulings to health services, not just education providers.

MPs have recognised that restoring parents’ confidence in the SEND system isn’t just about “involving” parents, important as that is. It’s also about making sure the law is followed, so children and young people receive the support they need.

Wow! The Summer Holidays are done. Does anyone else think they went quickly this year?! The Hayley Quinn Speech Therapy Team are looking forward to another exciting academic year where we get to be part of some incredible communication journeys with the children we support and their families.
We are now a team of 6....!!
Hayley - Clinical Specialist Speech and Language Therapist
Claire - Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner
Jacqui - Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner
Alice - Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner
Teri - Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner
Charlotte - Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner
You may have noticed we've moved from using the job title "Speech and Language Therapy Assistant" to "Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner". I feel the word Practitioner describes their role within the team more accurately. All of the team are experienced and highly skilled at what they do and their role far exceeds being my "assistant".
Here's to academic year 2025/26 🎊
