Wow! The Summer Holidays are done. Does anyone else think they went quickly this year?! The Hayley Quinn Speech Therapy Team are looking forward to another exciting academic year where we get to be part of some incredible communication journeys with the children we support and their families.

You may have noticed we've moved from using the job title "Speech and Language Therapy Assistant" to "Speech and Language Therapy Practitioner". I feel the word Practitioner describes their role within the team more accurately. All of the team are experienced and highly skilled at what they do and their role far exceeds being my "assistant".

We've grown again!! Charlotte Halfacre is our newest member of the team and she will be expanding her caseload from September as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant. Charlotte has a background as a qualified teacher and more recently has been working in a preschool setting. We are excited to be able to offer more support to children in the local area ❤️

I am delighted to welcome Teri Calvert to Hayley Quinn Speech Therapy!! Teri is joining us as a speech and language therapy assistant and I can't wait for her to start supporting our wonderful children and their families! Teri is a qualified teacher who brings a wealth of experience in supporting children to reach their potential. Teri will be building up her caseload over the next few months.... Exciting times!! ❤️

So Term 5 is here.... Is anyone else on countdown to the May half term yet?! Term 5 is always a funny term as it tends to be shorter than the others with two bank holidays! This makes diary planning challgeing! As a team we try hard to be flexible with our appointments but if you do need to cancel one please give us as much notice as possible otherwise we may not be able to offer another one for a few weeks. Busy busy!! ❤️

Wow.... Just wow! I can only assume that Tom Rees (DfE inclusion advisor) does not have a child with speech, language and communication needs... Or know anyone with a child who has SLCN! These children face challenges day in day out to get their messages heard and understood and to make a sweeping statement calling these needs "predictable and normal" is just insulting and outrageous! It undermines our whole profession and the determination we have to help these children find their voices, whether that be through speech or other means. SHAME ON YOU MR REES! How dare you call yourself an inclusion advisor... I challenge you to observe the work of a speech and language therapist for a day and see whether you maintain your "predictable and normal" judgement on these children and their struggles! 😡😡😡

Merry Christmas to all the wonderful children and their families who we've had the pleasure and honour of supporting during 2024.
