Meningitis Update for Patients
The NHS in Kent & Medway has confirmed ongoing meningococcal cases in the Canterbury area. A UKHSA patient helpline is now available for anyone who has no symptoms but is worried they may have been in contact with a confirmed case, or who has general questions.

This service is for non‑symptomatic enquiries.
If you develop symptoms of meningitis, please seek urgent medical help immediately.

From Friday 30th January, our Anima service will open earlier at 6:30am. We recognise that the previous 7:30am opening time did not work for everyone due to work, caring responsibilities, or other commitments, and we hope this change makes it easier for patients to access the service. Please note that clinical triaging will begin at 8:00am.

Do you need a flu vaccination?

The flu vaccine is recommended for people at higher risk of getting seriously ill from flu.

You can get the free NHS flu vaccine if you:
are aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2026)
have certain long-term health conditions
are pregnant
are the main carer for an older or disabled person
live with someone who has a weakened immune system

Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer. This September is World Alzheimer’s Month, with World Alzheimer’s Day happening on 21st September to raise dementia awareness and support people affected by the disease.

As we age, it’s normal to experience some changes in our mental abilities. While these changes can be frustrating, they’re usually a natural part of getting older. Dementia, however, is different; it’s a group of symptoms caused by different diseases that damage the brain.

Every three minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with dementia. Early signs can be subtle but often include:
Memory loss
Confusion and difficulty with daily tasks
Trouble with language and understanding
Changes in mood, behaviour or personality
If you’ve noticed a change in yourself, or someone has mentioned that they feel you have shown new behaviour, it’s important to speak to a GP early.

Eligibility:
Patients 75 & over & those immunosuppressed are eligible for both Covid & Flu.
Patients aged between 65 - 74 & those at risk are eligible for the Flu vaccine.
