Sponsored Walk for Better Life in Memory of Alli



On May 17th staff from Tonypandy Health Centre walked from Treherbert to Trehafod in memory of their late colleague Dr Allison John, raising money for the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at University Hospital Llandough where Allison was treated.



One of these fundraisers, Jane, told us that Allison was a much loved GP who sadly died in December 2024 aged just 46. Allison had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis as a baby and over the years had had a heart & lung, liver and kidney transplant. Despite the numerous challenges her condition caused her, she studied medicine in Cardiff and graduated in 2010. Allison completed GP training in the South Wales Valleys and was still working at Tonypandy Health Centre at the time of her death.



Jane said “Allison was courageous, compassionate and never complained. She was loved by colleagues and patients alike.”

A huge well done to all involved and a great big thank you for raising money for Cardiff & Vale Health Charity to support the Better Life Fund for the Cystic Fibrosis Unit at the University Hospital Llandough.

In April we had 163 patients who failed to attend their booked appointments and didn’t cancel . This puts added strain on the appointment system .

If you need urgent care that can not wait until 8am on 16th May , please ring the practice and an alternative number will be provided .
Local pharmacies will still be open and able to offer the common ailments scheme .

The practice has a supply of flu vaccines suitable for anyone over 65 years of age . If you would like a vaccine please ring any afternoon to book an appointment.

Please be aware that this afternoon the Practice will have a limited number of staff on site while the rest of the team pay their respects to our much loved friend and colleague Dr Alli John. Therefore we will be seeing emergencies only and these will be triaged by a GP first .
