The sun stimulates the production of Vitamin D in the skin which is essential for strong and healthy bones, but even on an overcast day, UV is still present and just as unprotected skin can become burned, unprotected eyes can become damaged over time also.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

👀 It's Macular Week!​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The macula is part of the retina at the back of the eye. Whereas the rest of the retina processes our peripheral (side) vision, and even though the macula is only about 5mm across, it is responsible for our central vision, most of our colour vision and the fine detail of what we see.​​​​​​​​

The macula holds a high concentration of the cells that detect light. These cells send signals to the brain and the brain interprets them as images.​​​​​​​​

Nearly 1.5m people in the UK have macular disease and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common macular condition, and the biggest cause of sight loss in the UK - affecting more than 600,000 people. Although macular disease affects people of all ages, AMD generally affects people over the age of 55.​​​​​​​​

If you've lost your spectacles or sunglasses, don't struggle on without them - contact us to arrange a replacement as soon as you can.

Sometimes spectacles and sunglasses are covered by home, car or health insurance policies, so if this is the case - we can provide copies of receipts if you'll be making a claim.

It's especially important that children wear their spectacles, so if your child loses or breaks theirs, be especially sure to contact us as soon as possible.

All children under 16 are entitled to a voucher towards the cost of repairing or replacing lost or broken spectacles.
