World Down Syndrome Day is an annual, global awareness and acceptance day advocating for the rights, inclusion and well-being of individuals who have Down Syndrome. Why March 21st? Why the socks? Because people who have Down Syndrome have 3 copies of the 21st chromosome and if looked under a microscope, those chromosomes look quite similar to socks!

Ways to celebrate:
- Wear mis-matched colourful socks.
- Wear blue and yellow (Down Syndrome awareness colours).
- Remember: Individuals with Down Syndrome are more alike than different.
- Be kind and be inclusive.

Singing songs in the language you know best will help to build your child's communication skills.

Sing traditional songs and rhymes in your own language. The benefits of singing together in your home language are just the same, and if children know their home language well, it will make it easier for them to begin to learn English.

For more top tips, lyrics and videos of the actions, download the National Literacy Trust's Sing With Me nursery rhyme booklet: https://wordsforlife.org.uk/activities/sing-with-me/

Welcome to Torbay 0 to 19

Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust are working with Action for Children and the Children’s Society as the new Torbay 0 to 19 Partnership. This new innovative service will be the first of its kind in the region and possibly the UK. The partnership brings together health visiting and school nursing, with children’s centres and Checkpoint so that families and young people in Torbay can access services from pregnancy through to adulthood, in one place.

Our Vision

To work alongside our communities in Torbay to provide an excellent service that supports and helps children, young people and their families/carers be safe, happy, and healthy and reach their full potential.

We want to involve as many people as possible in developing services towards this vision including children, young people and their families/carers, staff and stakeholders to make sure we work towards and achieve the vision.
