We're thrilled to be delivering hands‑on training this week using the GERT Age Simulation Suit — a truly immersive way to foster empathy and insight into the physical and sensory challenges experienced by older adults.

Drawing on the advanced, modular design from the creators of GERT, our sessions allow participants to directly experience:

Visual restrictions (via goggles that simulate cataracts, narrowed field of vision, glare sensitivity)

Reduced hearing (ear plugs + muffs to mimic high‑frequency hearing loss)

Muscle weakness, joint stiffness & impaired grip and coordination (added weights, gloves, elbow/knee wraps)

Limited mobility in neck, spine, and posture (cervical collar, posture‑altering vest)

By navigating everyday tasks—opening medicine bottles, filling forms, walking with unstable gait participants immediately connect with realities they may have never considered.

What’s happening in our training:

Participants don the full GERT suit and attempt routine tasks.

We conduct guided reflections on frustration, pace, communication challenges.

We explore how insights translate into better care, inclusive design, and improved service delivery.

This is more than a training—it’s an empathy accelerator.

Participants regularly report a shift in mindset: from “how do we help” to “how do I understand?” And that shift leads to changes in behaviour, design, and policy.
