We are passionate about the quality of care we provide and our woman-focused approach looks at your needs throughout each and every stage of your pregnancy. We provide maternity services at Torbay Hospital and the Whitelake Unit at Newton Abbot Hospital and in the community, supporting around 2000 women and birthing people a year who give birth with us. You can choose to plan to give birth at either one of our hospitals or at home. We aim to provide the best possible experience for mothers/gestative parents, babies and families, and are truly delighted that so many women and birthing people not only choose to return to us for second and subsequent births, but also recommend us to family and friends. The majority of women and birthing people experience uncomplicated pregnancies and birth journeys and we have a full range of options for maternity care. As well as our fantastic midwifery-led care we also provide an excellent obstetric model of care to include specialist support for more complex pregnancies and health conditions. We are very proud of our teamwork ethic, where staff work together to plan and deliver one-to-one care tailored to the needs of individual women and birthing people.

🌟 — Special Maternity Edition

Today we’re celebrating our incredible Maternity Team 👶💙

Our first story comes from a family who wanted to share their heartfelt thanks for the care they received from the Harbourside Team:

“Thank you to the Harbourside Team for the wonderful antenatal care. I was lucky enough to have the same midwife I had with my first baby — she’s so lovely, calm, and reassuring, her consistent support meant so much to us.

We had an unexpected home birth and the midwife was simply incredible. She arrived quickly, stayed calm and helped me labour safely at home. Her confidence and gentle encouragement made such a difference in what could have been a very stressful situation.

Thank you to the midwife on the phone in the labour ward who stayed on the line until the midwife arrived, coaching me through contractions and supporting my partner and birthing team the whole way. Their reassurance made a world of difference.

Thank you all for helping bring our little girl safely into the world with such compassion, professionalism, and care. We’ll never forget it.”

💙 A huge thank you to our Harbourside Team and maternity colleagues — your compassion, professionalism and calm support mean the world to families.
