🚑 What is GoodSAM? 🚑

You may have seen us mention GoodSAM yesterday. GoodSAM (Good Smartphone Activated Medics) is a system that alerts trained responders to nearby medical emergencies following a 999 call, enabling early care before ambulance services arrive.

Many of our operational staff and volunteers at Event Medical Solutions SW CIC are registered GoodSAM responders, supporting both our events and the wider community when urgent assistance is required.

For those with appropriate training, becoming a GoodSAM responder is a valuable way to support emergency care in your local community.

Community Awareness Message

At Event Medical Solutions SW CIC, our priority is the safety, dignity, and wellbeing of those experiencing medical emergencies.

Today, one of our responders attended a GoodSAM call within the local community. While emergency services and volunteers were focused on providing care, the behaviour of some members of the public was unacceptable. Despite clear instructions from police and security, individuals attempted to walk through an active medical scene, argued when challenged, and took photos and videos of a person during one of the most vulnerable moments of their life.

It was particularly concerning that some people could not understand why emergency scenes require space, control, and respect — and that a member of the public who appropriately asked for no photos to be taken was confronted for doing the right thing.

Medical emergencies are not entertainment, shortcuts, or obstacles to pass through. They are critical incidents involving real people who deserve privacy, dignity, and compassion.

If you encounter an emergency: stop, follow instructions, give space, and put your phone away. Our collective behaviour in these moments directly impacts safety and reflects the values of our community.

This message is shared to educate and raise community awareness, not to single out or shame individuals.
