We were touched by these reflections from one of our regular Family Dance participants. Her words say more than we ever could about why this space exists.
💬 “We love Family Dance. It’s a very precious space, and deeply supports our wellbeing as a family. It’s precious to me that my young son sees men dance, sees the male leaders dance, sees his father dance.
It’s very good for my health as a mum that they bring out the crayons, pencils and paper. It gives me a chance to move my own body free of my son, which is very rare for me these days. It gives my husband and I a rare chance to dance together without our son wanting to be swung around.
What I see when we take our son to football is the boys generally play football; and the girls are still dancing in little pink dresses. Family Dance is something quite different - where humans dance and families dance, beyond gender templates. Dance is part of our humanity and part of our birthright. It’s very precious to me that we give our son that community experience every month.
I’m deeply grateful to the leaders for their devotion and very high level of skill.
I wish we could have Family Dance every week and I wish everyone everywhere could have Family Dance.”
