Interesting about the name of Britain ๐ฌ๐ง in association with the Goddess of Imbolc x
Tonight is the Eveโ of Brighid (31st Jan) ~ The Goddess of Imbolc
Lore states on this eveโ she shall roam the earth โจ
A traditional custom during this tide is to leave a shawl or piece of cloth on your window sill, or drapped over a hedge in a prominent place to receive her blessing.
For it to be infused by Her light and infused by her dew.
Known as Brighidโs mantle ~โBrat Bhrideโ
A mantle of Her protection, healing and blessing.
To enwrap and enfold you throughout the year.
The brat bhride represents Brighidโs cloak. It was said that she wore a blue cloak given to her by a druid when she was young child; who recognised her.
Tomorrow St Brighidโs day heralds the first stirrings of spring; known as Imbolc which translates as โin the bellyโ. This year Imbolc astronomically falls on Mon 3rd Feb as we enter 15 degrees in aquarius (the midpoint between the winter solstice & spring equinox) though this is an agricultural tide our ancestors celebrated over a season like all of these seasonal festivities.
These Isles of Britain, and not forgetting Brittany too which is now Northern France, received the name of the Goddess Brigid.
For she is also known by the names of Brit, Britaine, Britannia, Brigantia, Brighid, Brita, Bree.
It is good to remember that she was the daughter of the great Dagda; the Chieftan of the Tuatha de Danaan. Otherwise known as the Shining Ones, or often referred today as the Fae.
And like all fae, they would often choose an animal to inhabit in crossing the thresholds from this world to the Otherworld. For Brighid it was the Swan.
On this eveโ of Imbolc night it is not just Brighid who walks these lands, but the Shining Ones who emerge from the hills as the gates to the Otherworld open.
It is always good to remember our Matron Goddess of these isles is of the Fae after all ๐ฅฐ
โจMay the fire and waters of Brighid reignite your vision, dreams and sight
Washing away all that needs to be let go of from the winter tideโจ
Imbolc blessings โจ
