Men being more likely to die by su***de is becoming one of the most tragicly recognised truisms of our age.

We believe that the lack of deep and honest connection many men feel with other men is one of the causes of the loneliness and desperation that leads to male su***de.

On this ***depreventionday find a mate, tell them you love them. Make the connection happen, or it might never happen

More spaces that allow men the space to do this, will help all men get the help they need. Su***de prevention doesn't start at crisis point.

What's the link between masculinity, physical activity and injury? That's been our theme this week @ Ageless Man, as we continue to explore what it means to be a man.

This week we were joined by the amazing Dr Tom Boyd of the giving us his expert experience on men, exercise, injury and recovery. It was an amazing discussion, and we could have been there all night. Some of the key themes:

πŸ‘ŠWe're made to move, and should be aiming for at least some minimal exercise everyday. Ignore the messages and pressures of the fitness industry and just get out and move!
πŸ‘ŠWe should all be aiming for a mixture of resistance and cardio each week. It not only makes us fitter, but can extend our lives!
πŸ‘ŠYou don't have to be a beefcake to be physically fit...just being active is enough; if you have a physical job, rest is just as important!
πŸ‘ŠSleep is SUPER important for recovery
πŸ‘ŠListen to your body...don't be a hero and try to overdo it!

Our research into cultural conceptions of manhood tell us that everywhere men are culturally expected to take risks and face danger. We take that into our exercise patterns, overdo it and get injured. Then we can't move and feel less of a man. this leads to poor mental health and further risky behaviour such as drink and drugs.

Amazingly nearly every man present had a story or how they USED to be more active when they were younger, then something happened and they stopped.

We're learning how important our connections to our physical selves are to our mental health as men.

Another week, another amazing session with the men from Ageless Man πŸ‘ŠπŸ•πŸŒ²πŸŒ³

We're exploring more about how our sense of connection affects our mental health as men. Connection to others, to ourselves, to nature, to our communities. We're unpicking how this loss of connection leads to the loneliness and isolation that leads to men becoming mental health statistics, and how we can address issues BEFORE they become crises ✊

Last week we heard from the inspirational Benjamin Mee from about the power of connecting to the natural world, and followed this with an immersive day in the beautiful Caradon Woods with our partners 🌳

This evening it's all about connecting to our bodies. Why do we need to move, why are men at risk of injury, and why don't we look after ourselves when it comes to physical pain and injury? It will be another fascinating exploration of manhood! And of course, all aided by the wonderful pizzas from πŸ•πŸ˜‹πŸ€
