Abigail, based in Tiverton, was already up & running when I met her but she wanted to ensure her self-employed business was as a good as she could make it so, over 4 sessions, she worked hard to 'polish' what was already pretty shiny in the first place!

People I've supported in the past two or three years tend to say one of these things to me. Most of these people have good experience in social care or health settings but, for various reasons, just want to set up by themselves. These reasons are rarely financial!😁

The term “microprovider” is being used more and more in different parts of the country to indicate a small, local (usually 1-person) business that works to an agreed set of standards and charging fair prices.

All businesses take time and work to get them off the ground but there is a constant need for health and social care support. Individuals who need this often like to choose what they receive - and who delivers it!!. Micros are an alternative (not a substitute) for other more traditional types of services. They are there to provide CHOICE!

The Microprovider advice and support programme aims to support people to set up well. Do you have an idea but are not sure where to start? Let me know your idea via this link https://forms.office.com/e/fbSU1MPfrN and let’s have a chat

1. It’s about CHOICE. People wanting care or support may want to select who provides this for them. Having a service that is small, flexible and local works well for many people. Microproviders can offer this.

2. It’s about TRUST. Looking for care or support via Google can make you feel like your head might explode! How do you know who to trust? A good microprovider is someone you can trust because they are reliable, organised and professional (like a larger provider…only smaller!).

3. It’s about QUALITY. Without providing a good service, providers (big or small) go out of business. Good microproviders are highly motivated to provide great quality, personalised support so they can stay in business and continue to do what they love doing.

Most people know about PAs, private carers, home-helps – Microprovider is a new term but don’t get hung up on the name – most people are in these roles for the same reasons. They want to work for themselves and want to offer good quality local support to other local people.

Are you already doing this by yourself but want to improve what you offer? Or perhaps you would like to set up as self-employed from scratch.
The Microprovider support programme is still free and there to help improve and support self-employed care and support workers. Why not enquire for more info? https://www.disabilityfocus.org/pa-microproviders/ 😊😊

Real pleasure to work with Simon Trow and learning more about what he is now able to bring as a new Micro' in Devon. Not unlike myself he is at a stage in his career when he wanted to offer something more personalised and less pressurised! He has a huge range of skills & knowledge to draw upon and wants to get back to working directly with people - old, young or anywhere in between. Just doing what he loves doing.
Although Simon had a really strong background in health and social care / managing services I really admired his humble approach in wanting to still make sure he got things right as an independent, self-employed carer. Great stuff! Want to know more about Simon? https://www.communitycatalysts.co.uk/smallgoodstuff/directory/simon-trow/

Posting on behalf of Gill, wonderfully experienced Exeter-based carer in her 70s and still going strong! Just wanting to highlight this lady who could be a fabulous support to an older person who might like care or support from someone more mature and closer in age to themselves.
If you want more details you can find Gill here https://www.communitycatalysts.co.uk/.../gills-elite-care/
