One of my families recommended these wheelchair covers; they have a thick fleece lining and a wide range of cool designs. So much easier to go for a poncho that covers both the child and the chair when it’s raining or cold to keep them snug and dry. An Australian company but they ship worldwide.

A friend has asked me if I know anyone who can make use of a hippocampe that her son has grown out of. It is the medium size in blue and has a lap strap and head rest. They are a great buggy for accessing the beach. If you think this could work for your child please let me know and I’ll put you in touch.

SIBLING TIME! I love working over the school holidays because all the siblings join my sessions! It’s so lovely to see my clients interacting with their siblings, whether it’s at home or in the hydro pool; they bring a different vibe to therapy that we all enjoy. I’m not saying it’s easier….. but it’s so worth it! ❤️❤️

I had a delightful session today at a nursery where I was working with E on standing. She was smashing it out of the park and happily stood at a table wearing gaiters and with support for 19 minutes - a new record! Her key worker was so impressed she asked to retake her graduation photo from earlier in the week. They grabbed the hat and gown and I moved to the side to support her standing where my mug wouldn’t feature in the shot! We got a cracker. Well over 20 years as a kids physio and I still love my job. 🥰

It was great to meet the team from Friendly Shoes UK at kidz to adultz. They supply footwear designed to wear with splints for both children and adults. My dad is a splint wearer and he has ordered 3 pairs! Really great customer service as he needed to change size. One of my clients needs heel wedges to reduce her knee hyperextension however, once I added these her standard trainers were not giving enough support and her ankle rolled. Her mum bought a pair of friendlys and the ankle roll has gone! It’s so important to tune orthotics with footwear and the appropriate heel wedges. I get really frustrated that NHS Orthotists do not routinely do this. Video gait analysis and orthotics tuning comes as my standard care; if I can help you get this right for your child, please do get in touch.

Had a great time at The Active Hands Company Limited stand at kidz to adultz. So many great products for children with reduced hand function. From grip aids to toothpaste dispensers, adapted cutlery, playing card holder, deodorant easy spray, magnetic zips and laces, magnetic phone chargers and phone holders; you name it they have it. The company director sustained a spinal cord injury himself and his difficulty finding the products he needed led to him starting the company. The staff were really knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Last week I had a great session using their general purpose gripping aid with a young man to play tennis, cricket and use a water pistol. Can’t wait to try more of their stuff; my daughter will love the card holder for sure!

I’ll be there! Always a great opportunity to see loads of great kit. My biggest challenge is getting around because I always see so many people I know and it’s lovely to catch up with them! Plus on the drive there and back I’ll be engaging in professional development chat with my fellow independent Physios and OTs, I’ll be exhausted after all that!
