For those who chose not to go on the annual residential in Cornwall last term, we had some fun a bit closer to home!
Throughout the week we enjoyed lots of activities, so here’s a little break down of the week:
The students enjoyed baking cakes and biscuits for consumption in our Community Café the next day. As a treat following the baking, we all headed into Paignton for a round of crazy golf. On his first swing, one student got a hole in one after the ball went through a tunnel and spinning into the hole. A brilliant shot. All students enjoyed their round of golf. ⛳️
On request, we headed to Torquay for 10 pin bowling and keen to get strikes. Each student got at least one strike, whilst others got two or three. Thereafter, we headed to a beach in Paignton for a Sound Bath. This was different to what the students are normally use to at college for their Sound Therapy. Through relaxation and breathing exercises, we all enjoyed the sea air and sounds. On the Paignton Green, we all sat in a circle, listening to the vibrating sounds of a Tibetan Singing Bowl and physically feeling it vibrations on our backs. This was an amazing afternoon and the students enjoyed the experience of relaxation and meditation.
SoundArt Radio were invited back into the college to do some experiments on the sounds and enabled the students to record their experiences. In a field, a student used two planks of wood and walked to the far end of the field, whilst the others watched. They were amazed that they could see two pieces of wood being banged together and hear the sound two or three seconds later!
To end the week, the students visited Woodlands and the National Marine Aquarium Plymouth. At Woodlands, the students enjoyed the experience of the Water Coasters, sliding down the rapids. One student even dragged every member of staff onto the ride with him, making a total of 9 rides. He enjoyed every ride down and was not bothered about getting wet. 🌊
At the aquarium, the students were mesmerised by the number of fish within the tanks and we were thrilled to see some sharks, stingrays and other tropical fish. Everyone enjoyed the experience so much that we went round twice!🐟🦈
In all, a brilliant week full of fun activities!
