Set in a stunning hillside location overlooking the River Dart, The Barn Retreat Centre has been a friendly retreat centre for 25 years. It is a place where people are given the opportunity to reconnect with themselves and with

nature in a tranquil, supportive environment. Through a mixture of mindfulness practice, teacher-led inquiry and working meditation in our organic garden, retreatants develop a practice of mindfulness for everyday life.

"We enter solitude, in which also we lose loneliness…
True solitude is found in the wild places, where one is without human obligation.
One’s inner voices become audible.
One feels the attraction of one’s most intimate sources.
In consequence, one responds more clearly to other lives.
The more coherent one becomes within oneself as a creature, the more fully one enters into the communion of all creatures"

"Absolutely phenomenal…I have learnt a whole lot of takeaway skills to apply to my own work and feel more confident and clearer about how to proceed with that. The comprehensive manual will really help moving forward to refresh my memory. Thank you"

"I can’t fault the training. Exceptional holding, facilitation, blend of practical and theoretical…usually I emerge feeling drained after a long training yet now I feel enlivened, energised and inspired"

"I would highly recommend this training. Brigit & Ollie have a depth of knowledge and experience that makes the course very informative and also a profound learning experience in a beautiful, natural setting"

"A joyful, nourishing week, full of learning, connection and reflection"

"I liked how well the land on the (Sharpham) Estate was used by the facilitators"

"The course was really well-paced with extremely knowledgeable and accessible teachers. I can’t fault a single thing"

"The teachers’ knowledge, skills and passion were palpable and infectious"

"The landscape here – rolling hills and endless green – sets the tone for what to expect: calmness, connection and nature. Guests enrolled on the seven-day meditation retreat live in a community setting, participate in mindful gardening practices, go hiking in the Devonshire countryside, and muck in with meals for the group. In return, they’ll get a private room, three home-cooked vegetarian meals and three 40-minute meditation sessions daily"

The Guardian, reviewing our Being in Brotherhood retreat for men.

Our next edition of this Buddhism-inspired, 6-night retreat begins on Sunday August 3.

Barn retreatants often walk mindfully to our green burial ground Sharpham Meadow when they stay with us, contemplating impermanence when there.

The incredible view from the meadow has been captured by artist Cheryll Kinsley Potter in memory of Tanja Price, who's buried there.

Her dad Bob is selling prints, donating some of each sale to us to maintain this eco-haven, that supports wildlife like hares, kestrels and pollinators, whilst holding our dead.

WE'RE HIRING!
Retreat venue cook - 37.5 hours per week, permanent contract (but open to job-share/p-t hrs)

This role oversees the catering for a mix of our own retreats and private hire groups of up to 18 participants, who will attend the Coach House weekly, arriving on varying days for different lengths of stays.

The excellence of Sharpham’s vegetarian and vegan food has been rightly celebrated for a number of years and we want to continue this high standard, using the amazing produce grown in our own walled, kitchen garden.

The successful candidate will liaise with our Head Gardeners and create menus based on the produce available. The kitchen will usually produce a buffet breakfast, a full lunch menu and a lighter evening meal. Volunteers & retreatants help with washing-up and may also support with veg prep, overseen by the cook in the still-new commercial kitchen.
