We’ve been focussing in on Chakra balancing for the last few weeks - focussing on a different energy centre each week, choosing poses which balance and energise the chakras.

What we have also started to do is slow down - find subtle differences and tweaks in our poses to really feel the benefit. A subtle soften, a gentle “glide your shoulders down your back” makes such a difference in the posture. Going slower is definitely trickier.. try it, and see for yourself! Let go of your ego and how you think things should look and go within - how does it make you feel? 🤔

💫 Received some lovely feedback from someone who attended my class last night and comes along to yoga when they have time in their diary 😀

♌️ 🌝 Full Snow Moon 💫 🙏🏻

After the Imbolc this week we are now treated to a beautiful snow moon! I took this earlier this evening before my pranayama workshop, which was a gorgeous evening of breathing techniques and meditation. So lovely to see so many people and some faces from my meditation courses back in 2018! Lovely! Thanks for coming everyone 🙏🏻

☀️ We chose to add some sun salutations into our practice on Wednesday evening - the flow with the breath soon warmed us all up! We then added a few extras, taking our time between poses to get the alignment perfect 👌🏻 Always a pleasure, yogis.

There is one space remaining on Wednesday evening from 5.30pm - 6.30pm.

Please note the 6.45-7.45pm is full.

🪷 Limb Seven 🪷

This is the uninterrupted flow of concentration. Similar to meditation, dharana puts our attention on one thing whereas dhyana is more a state of being aware without focus. So at this point the mind is quiet, producing few thoughts. It is not an easy state to get to, it takes practice and patience but once you get there, it is pure bliss!

Pratyahara is translated to ‘withdrawal of the senses’.

Believed to be an important step before the advanced practices of dharana (concentration) and dhyana (meditation).

🌬️ Pranayama - translated simply to ‘breath control’. Our prana is our life force, our breath.

Pranayama is the practice of controlling the breath - there are lots of different techniques which can be used to relax, lower our blood pressure, relieve an anxiety attack, reduce pain and so much more….!

My Pranayama Workshop is coming up on the 5th February - to book on or find out more, DM me 🌬️

Asana - the poses, the postures. Working through a series of postures is actually to prepare the body and the mind for meditation, by way of centering and relaxation.

🪷 Limb One - The Yamas 🪷

So going back to my post about yoga not only being a physical practice but also a way of life here are the Yamas which Putanjali, with his book of yoga sutras, lays out for us to try to follow - so in essence, things to not do, or at least, do mindfully.

Tomorrow I will share about Limb Two - The Niyamas - things to encourage into our lives and practice 💜

I mentioned in yesterdays post that yoga is not just about the physical practice, the asana, the poses. Yoga is in fact a way of life.

There are eight limbs of yoga, broken down into bite sized pieces.

During our yoga teacher training we studied the ancient texts of Putanjali who wrote the Yoga Sutras. He talks about following the guidelines in his writing in order to live a meaningful and purposeful life.

Keep your eyes peeled for more information….
