As part of Stress Awareness Month this April, we are shining a spotlight on burnout, and how to spot the signs early.

Burnout doesn’t happen overnight, and line managers are often in the best position to notice early changes and step in with support before things escalate.

In our latest blog, we explore:

• What burnout is (and how it differs from everyday stress)
• Common causes and early warning signs to look out for
• Practical steps managers can take to support their teams
• How to protect your own wellbeing as a manager

Burnout prevention isn’t about doing more - it’s about noticing, listening, and making small, meaningful changes that support people day to day.

A really valuable moment last week, bringing some of our senior leaders, (Sharon Corry, Jo Newey and Noel McElearney) and senior medical directors (Dr Laura Blackburn, Jason Sharif, Kerry Freer, Mani Khan, Dr Zahid Iqbal, Mangala Patil Mead) together, to focus on how we continue to support our clients in the best possible way.

Every client is unique, and the best way to meet those needs is by working closely as ‘One Team’, sharing ideas, learning from each other, and combining our experience. This continues to strengthen how we work together and support each client.

It’s also a reminder that great outcomes don’t come from working in silos, but from listening, collaborating, and growing together.

After struggling to access a PSA test through his GP - despite a family history of prostate cancer - one employee took the opportunity to have a PSA test during one of our onsite health checks.

The result showed a raised PSA level, leading to an early diagnosis and successful treatment. He credits the assessment with helping him act quickly, and making a real difference to his health.

Prostate cancer is now the most common cancer diagnosis in England. PSA testing is just one of the many assessments we offer to help employers support early detection and protect employee health.

Why invest in onsite health checks?

• Identify risks early
• Same-day health reports
• Flexible packages to suit your organisation
• Anonymous reporting to highlight trends
• Industry-leading satisfaction

📣 Limited-time offer: We’re offering 10% off next year’s onsite health assessments.

Menopause symptoms can have a significant impact on both work and home life - affecting wellbeing, confidence and performance.

For line managers, having a basic understanding of menopause and how to offer support can make a real difference to employee experience and retention.

In our latest blog, we cover:
• Menopause symptoms and their impact at work
• How managers can support employees
• What employees can do to support themselves
• The role of occupational health

👉 Read the blog here: https://www.optimahealth.co.uk/menopause-support-for-managers/

With many people experiencing menopause during their working lives, offering the right support isn’t just the right thing to do, it’s essential to an effective wellbeing strategy, and a more inclusive and supportive workplace.

19/03/2026

🌸 Government guidance now encourages employers to help employees manage menopause symptoms through occupational health support - and more organisations are recognising the importance of reducing health‑related barriers that affect women at work.

Only 19% of women surveyed in 2022 were aware of the menopause support available in their workplace (GOV.UK), showing how vital it is to make guidance visible and accessible. Employees who receive the right support are also less likely to report a negative impact on their work.

💙March is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month - a reminder of how important early detection really is.

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK, with over 52,000 men diagnosed each year and 1 in 8 men affected in their lifetime (Prostate Cancer UK).

Creating a workplace where people feel supported to look after their health can make a real difference. Onsite health assessments help employees understand their risks early, get practical guidance, and take proactive steps to stay well.

As part of this month’s awareness activity, we’re offering a 10% saving on next year’s onsite health assessment delivery for organisations booking before the end of March - a small way to help you support your people and your budget.
