It’s so true! Your scar will almost always have influence in issues of pain, restriction or disconnection which is why I’ve trained with Jan and Sharon to specialise in ScarWork and bring it together with the holistic, fascial approach I take to solving your pain and movement issues.
Any scar may look fine on top; it’s what’s happening underneath that matters.
Adhesions may form and pull joints and bones out of position. If you had an infection on the left side of the scar, this could contribute to a restriction in the left hip. If you carried your baby on the left hip, the fascia will probably have densified; that restriction can feed into the scar under the skin and cause more problems.
With Sharon Wheeler’s ScarWork, we work on the scar, but then it is ideal if the therapist is able to follow up with fascia work to clear the patterning. Once this is done, because the fascia connects every structure inside you, the internal balance of the whole body, not just local to the scar, starts to be restored, improving mobility and functionality.
A scar is rarely just a scar!
