YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.
For years now I have been interested in the fact that eating different types of foods can actually contribute to getting you fitter. I would think that most if not all of our clients at Wellbeing Fitness are interested either in losing a few pounds or at the very least stopping the pounds from accumulating! Here are a few tips that I thought you might find interesting:

1. For breakfast, try eating some melon followed by an egg. Both are full of vitamins and the egg helps to break down the carbohydrates in the melon.

2. For breakfast again, use full fat milk with your cereal but dilute it with water. You’re still getting all the natural vitamins and minerals that can be lacking in skimmed or semi-skimmed milk while the water reduces the absorption of sugar and decreases the fat intake.

3. If you eat a small bowl of muesli a couple of hours before training, it will increase the amount of fat-burning that occurs during your session. Muesli is a slow-digesting carbohydrate and is less likely to be transferred to the body as fat when training – but it still gives a good energy boost.

4. Have soup for lunch. It’s been demonstrated experimentally that soup stays in the stomach for longer, thus keeping you feeling full for longer – and therefore there’s less temptation to snack on chocolate bars in the late afternoon.

5. Try to cut down your cheese consumption. It’s one of the biggest culprits for weight gain. A thinner slice of a strong cheese in a sandwich will still give you plenty of flavour with much less fat.

6. We know that we ought to eat greens but spinach is the Number One with double the amount of fibre which helps your body to process fats more efficiently.

7. And now the good news! A daily glass of red wine (I said glass not bottle!) can stop you from putting on fat, especially round the stomach. Resveratrol from the grapes inhibits the development of fat cells around your waist. (Of course you could eat the grapes instead of the wine for a similar effect!)

LEARN HOW TO LIVE LONGER!

One of my clients, Kath, is in her mid sixties and has been coming to me for a couple of years. She has a philosophy which I really like. She often says to me,

“Ian, I’m not bothered about WHEN I drop off my perch but I want to be going at full steam when I do!”

I’m in the business of making that happen for Kath just as I am with my other clients who are nearly all in their forties, fifties and sixties. Her goal is something we can all identify with. No one likes the idea of getting older and weaker, eventually becoming a burden on our relatives.

The answer is easier than you think and it’s NEVER TOO LATE: Kath had not done any exercise for forty years before she came to me. All you’ve got to do is
GRADUALLY change the way you do things – little by little, bit by bit.

So let’s get started. Here’s TWO things you can do TODAY.
1. Whenever you feel like diving for the fridge or you’d kill your whole family for a chocolate bar, drink a glass of water. Hunger is often mistaken for dehydration. (And your family will appreciate it!)

2. Whenever you’re sitting or standing around doing nothing in particular, tighten your buttocks and pull your stomach in towards your spine.
Repeat this as often as you can.

If you’d like some help with your health and fitness or if you know someone who would like some help, why not give us a call on 01327 351110.

We’d like to invite you into our studio for a free consultation to see exactly how our different way of doing things could assist you.

I’ve had a lot of conversations with clients over the last few weeks that have suffered or are suffering with cramp more often than not. Now muscle cramps can be caused for a few reasons but one of those reasons is dehydration.

Which makes sense as to why some of you are suffering more so now than at any other time of the year, maybe that’s due to this lovely weather we’re having, you’re doing more in the garden. Maybe going abit heavier on the alcohol front, the beer gardens are calling after all. Just being outside in this weather in general and you forget to hydrate properly.

Hydration!!! Drink More Water! Drink all the water in the world isn’t always going to cut the mustard. In most cases you’ll end up taking a trip the the loo more often and potentially dehydrating yourself even more.

Now without getting too scientific about it. All you need to think about is how to hydrate more effectively. There is a key component you’re missing.

Electrolytes!!
What are they?

LIVE ONLINE Level 3 Nutrition for Health Diploma
Many of you reading this are long-time loyal clients and subscribers to Wellbeing Fitness or have done one of our Level 3 Personal Training or Sports Massage courses. Before going on I want to thank you for your support.

As some of you may know …

Recently we rolled out our own LIVE ONLINE Level 3 Nutrition for Health Diploma in association with Wellbeing Fitness Education Centre and we now have our first official course date booked for Wednesday 13 April 2022. It’ll be taught between 6.30 and 9.00 pm on 10 consecutive Wednesdays, finishing on 15 June. And don’t worry if you can’t make one or more of the dates. They’ll be recorded so you can watch them at home at a later date.

As this is our first ONLINE course we are offering it to you at a massive 40% discount - £595.00 instead of £995.00
The teacher for the duration of the course, Joel Harfield is a highly qualified and experienced nutritionist with an MSc in Sports Nutrition. He has one clear goal - to make sure you pass and are comfortable and confident delivering nutritional advice sessions. Joel will be teaching it LIVE online, with opportunities to work together in groups, have discussions, ask questions etc. It WON’T be like many of the sub-standard internet courses, where students never actually get the chance for live interactions with tutor and fellow students.

What’s more, you don’t need to have any previous qualifications to study for this course
Taking part in this Diploma Course is perfect for you if:
You are looking for a change in career and want to follow your passion and get involved with / help people by working in the health and wellbeing industry.

If you’ve recently left education and want to start a fulfilling career working in the health and wellbeing industry.
If you just want to learn more about nutrition and further your knowledge or you’d like to be able to give help and advice to friends and family - and want to obtain a qualification in it.
You might have just done, or are about to finish a Level 3 Personal Training Diploma and are looking to take the next step in increasing your expertise.

If you want to find out more about the course and qualify as a Nutritional Advisor please email me at: ianryves@wellbeingfitness.co.uk and I will send you a prospectus.
Best wishes
Ian

Today I introduce Josh Uylett.

Josh has been with us since June 2021.

If you see him around say hello 👋

Josh comes from Northampton where he still lives. Like many of our personal trainers, he was always interested in sport and fitness so it was a fairly natural process that he decided to go to Moulton College to study Sport and Exercise Science.

However, his move to become a personal trainer came via a different route. He’s a martial arts enthusiast and practises Taekwondo. He became so good at it that he was invited to take the junior classes, and in exchange, was allowed to attend the adult classes for free. And it was that, that inspired in him a love of teaching – and to move on to gain a personal training qualification.

Outside of work, he is a bit of a movie buff, especially of modern films. And also rather surprisingly, a foodie, visiting specialist restaurants far and wide. (But he’s not revealed his secret of staying so slim while eating all that delicious food!). The thing he likes about working at Wellbeing Fitness, he says, is that all the clients are so different. So as well as challenging him and keeping him on his toes, it also adds an exciting variety to every working day.

Today I introduce Ben Newman

Ben has been with us since June of 2021.

If you see him around say Hello 👋.

Here’s a little more about Ben.

Ben is a local boy. Although he now lives in Northampton, he went to Sponne School so is very familiar with South Northamptonshire, and now even more so because he plays rugby for the Towcestrians.

He has a passion for fitness, goes regularly to the gym himself and is a qualified sports massage therapist. In what spare time he has left he has travelled to America and beyond – and is lucky enough to have a relative living in Gran Canaria so is able to go there on a regular basis.

The thing he likes about working at Wellbeing Fitness is the pleasant and sociable team and the friendly clients.
“Training the clients doesn’t feel like work”, he says, and I can’t think of better compliment to the people who train with us.

Today I introduce Ben Giddings

Ben has been with us since August of 2021.

If you see Ben around say Hello 👋 at 6ft 5” you can’t miss him. Here’s a little more about Ben.

Ben lives near Towcester and came into the fitness industry because of his love of sport and fitness. As well as being a keen badminton player he’s also a martial arts specialist and practises the type of Thai kickboxing called Muay Thai. At one point he thought going into the Army and spent some time helping people to train for entry into the Armed Forces.

The idea of helping people with their fitness became so appealing that he decided to make a career of it and gain his Personal Trainer qualification.
He has spent a lot of time travelling, particularly around Europe; he particularly enjoys the skiing in France and also spending time in Spain.
What he loves about working at Wellbeing Fitness is seeing people move from A to B, and particularly because everyone is different and he can tailor his sessions to what each individual needs. And, he says, “The best thing about my job is seeing people smile at the end of a session”.

Today we introduce Rhys Watkins

Rhys came onboard with us June of last year. So if you see him around say hello 👋.

Here’s all little more info on Rhys.

Rhys was brought up in Weedon, went to school in Daventry, from there to Moulton College and then on to Portsmouth University where he studied for a degree in Sports Science and obtained his qualification in Personal Training.

But it wasn’t a straightforward journey because he also attended Northampton Football Academy and did a number of jobs before coming to Wellbeing Fitness.

His performance here has been so impressive that when a position as Assistant Manager came up, we appointed him. Rhys says,
”I’ve always been interested in health and fitness and I’ve also always liked to see people get fitter, with all the benefits that come with it. Coming to Wellbeing Fitness has enabled me to meet all kinds of different people – the kind that I’ve never met before. And that’s what makes the job so interesting. Teaching people new things, seeing them improve, whether it’s flexibility or strength or whatever. It’s what makes my job worthwhile.”

Hello everyone,

We are well into the New Year and with lots happening in 2022 i’d like to take this opportunity to introduce our team here at Wellbeing Fitness.

Today we have Helen Percival

Helen has been with us since Summer 2021. So if you see her around say hello 👋.

Helen lives in Green’s Norton with her husband and two boys. Before being a full-time Mum for the past twelve years she had a career in all things associated with the body. She is a qualified beauty therapist, has been a Weight Watchers leader and a Swedish Massage practitioner.
During her time as a full time Mum she came to Wellbeing Fitness as a client and from there did our Diploma in Personal Training, our Diploma in Health and Nutrition and is down for the next course in Sports Massage. So all in all, she has gathered a considerable amount of expertise. Helen particularly loves Pilates, which she has practised for years and uses this knowledge to make her personal training sessions more interesting and varied. She particularly likes adapting programmes to suit the individual and is an ambassador for core fitness. “It’s the secret of staying young, fit and active.”
