❗️Health Visitors Update

You may be aware that some Health Visitors in the CTM Health Board area are taking industrial action over the next 4 weeks (23rd February to 20th March 2026).

Our priority during this period is the safety and accessibility of services provided to you and your family and we are working hard to minimise the impact you experience.

However, to keep services safe and ensure we can support families with more complex and urgent needs, we are having to restrict some activities, including routine appointments which have already been cancelled.

Where the health board has not contacted you to cancel appointments, please note these are expected to take place as normal. If you are unsure if group drop-in sessions have been cancelled, please contact us (see below).

Because normal methods of contact may be disrupted, we have established a single point of access which we would kindly ask you to use as the main way to contact the Health Visiting service. You will find the details below:

☎️01443 803930
📩CTM.SPOAHealthVisiting@wales.nhs.uk

We aim to respond to all enquiries within two hours.

There is also a website which you may find useful: https://ctmuhb.nhs.wales/services/childrens-health-visiting/

Remember, if your baby or child is unwell and you are concerned, you should contact your GP or 111 as you normally would.

We are very sorry for the disruption and any concern caused by this issue. Please be assured that we will continue working hard to minimise the extent to which are affected.

Antibiotics are becoming less effective because we are overusing them and, in some cases, not using them properly.

If a clinician tells you that you don’t need antibiotics - it’s because you have a virus that will clear up eventually without the need for antibiotics.

Antibiotic resistance is one of the biggest threats we face. Taking antibiotics when you don’t need them; puts you and your family at risk.

Keep antibiotics working, by only taking them when they're needed.

☎️Today Patient demand has been extremely high, which has resulted in longer queuing times on our phone lines.

We appreciate that the long wait is frustrating, however we are working as fast as we can to answer the phones.

All staff within Treharris and Oaklands surgery are working hard to navigate the new system and we ask for your continued patience and understanding during this transition period for our surgeries.

❗❗ PLEASE REMEMBER ❗❗

Due to our system migration, we are operating on EMERGENCY appointments only.

This means that we are unable to offer routine appointments, print out prescriptions AND will have fewer appointments available.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, but we will be back to normal with our new system on Monday 16th February, however, as we navigate this new system your patience is appreciated.

Thank you
All Staff at Treharris Primary Care and Oaklands Surgery.

There is currently a national shortage of co codamol 30/500 tablets, affecting supplies across Wales and the rest of the UK. Our healthcare teams have been advised on how to manage this so that patients continue to receive safe and appropriate pain relief.

To help us manage supply safely, we are asking patients to:
• Only request your medication when it is due – please do not order early or ask for extra supplies.
• Use up any tablets you already have at home before requesting more.
• Be aware that your prescriber may make changes to your prescription so that your treatment can continue safely.
• Check the instructions on your medication, as your dose or product may change.
• Let your healthcare team know if you have recently changed what you take for pain relief.

Stockpiling reduces availability for people who need treatment now. Thank you for helping us to use medicines responsibly during this disruption.

If you have concerns about your pain management or your prescription, please speak with your healthcare team.

‼️START OF SYSTEM DOWNTIME ‼️

Dear patients,

As you may already be aware, we are currently in the process of moving to a new clinical I.T system

From approximately 12:00 noon Wednesday 4th February we will have NO access to our current clinical system as all our medical records start the process of being transferred across to the new system.

During this time, we will be unable to:

Book any appointments
Access your medical record
Issue any prescriptions
Check on hospital correspondence/letters
Provide any test results

This mornings appointments are for URGENT/EMERGENCIES ONLY. You will be asked to phone back another day if your concern is not urgent and if you can wait until we have temporary access to our old system again.

We will have limited access and appointments available. NO routine appointments will be booked during this time and you will be asked to call back when we have access again.

Please be patient with us while this work is carried out and we learn to navigate the new clinical system.

Your cooperation and understanding during this change, is greatly appreciated by us all.

Thank you,
Staff at Treharris Primary Care
