👩‍⚕️ 👨‍⚕️ Treorchy Pharmacy offers an ‘Independent Prescribing Service’ for minor health complaints including/but not limited to:

🩺 Middle and outer ear infections, pain, impacted &/or excessive wax
🩺 Respiratory conditions such as: sinusitis, allergic rhinitis, sore throats, tonsillitis & chest infections (5 years +)
🩺 Oral thrush
🩺 Bacterial skin infections - including cellulitis, paronychia and impetigo
🩺 Minor skin conditions including fungal infections (excluding nails)
🩺 Acne & rosacea (topical treatments only)
🩺 Inflammatory skin disorders: eczema & psoriasis (topical treatments only)
🩺 Dry skin
🩺 Skin reactions including: infected insect bites, stings, urticaria & hives
🩺 Repeat exacerbations of gout (pre-diagnosis required)
🩺 Shingles

Forest View Surgery are about to go live with electronic prescribing (August). If you’d like us to be able to receive your repeat/acute prescriptions electronically please pop in or phone us on: 01443 772183. Our team will ensure your prescriptions are electronically ‘nominated’ to come to us. We have to obtain a patient’s verbal/written ‘consent’ to receive prescriptions on their behalf using this new scheme. 🩺 🖥️ 📱 💻 🩺

Staying safe in a heatwave ☀️

As temperatures soar, so do health risks. Here's how to protect yourself and others:

✔️ Hydrate often – Drink plenty of water and limit alcohol and caffeine.

🧴 Block the burn – Use SPF 30+ sunscreen, wear a wide-brimmed hat and light clothing.

🌡️ Know the signs – Tiredness, dizziness and feeling sick can be signs of heat exhaustion. Visit the NHS 111 Wales website for advice on treating heat exhaustion and what to do if you suspect heatstroke, which needs to be treated as an emergency: https://111.wales.nhs.uk/

🏠 Stay cool – Close windows during the day and open them at night when the temperature outside has gone down. Electric fans can help if the temperature is below 35 degrees. Keep out of the sun at the hottest time of the day (between 11am and 3pm).

🦟 Watch out for bites – Use insect repellent and if you have a bite or sting, NHS 111 Wales online or your local pharmacy can advise on treating them at home.

📞 Check in – Check on family, friends and neighbours who may be at higher risk of becoming unwell, and if you are at higher risk, ask them to do the same for you. Never leave anyone or any pets in a parked car on a hot day.

- Urinary Tract Infections (Water Infection) in female patients aged 16 years and above.
- Tonsillitis/throat infections in patient’s aged 6 years and above.
- Ear infections: pain and wax
- Sinusitis
- Impetigo
- Cellulitis
- Infected Insect Bites
- Bacterial skin infections
- Repeat episodes of gout
- Shingles
- Chest Infections in patients aged 16 years and above.

Please pop into see us if you’re suffering from hayfever. The NHS funded common ailments service can provide free treatment for hayfever including eye drops, steroid nasal sprays and antihistamine tablets. Pop in (no appointment needed) and ask to speak to one of our Pharmacists.

We can now provide FEXOFENADINE tablets to anyone over 6 years, which is likely to be more effective than traditional antihistamines in some patients.

Our ear wax removal specialist, Vicki, is in all day each TUESDAY. Vicki can assess whether you have a build up of ear wax (no charge) and if she feels you’d benefit from ear wax removal via micro-suctioning she charges £45 for removal of wax from one ear, £60 for removal of wax from both ears. Removal takes approximately 15-30 minutes. Whilst it’s preferable to book an appointment by telephoning: 01443 772183, we can offer walk-in slots throughout the day.

FREE NHS SERVICE: Treorchy Pharmacy is able to help diagnose and treat outer and middle ear infections. We’re are also able to help diagnose and alleviate pain caused by wax build up. Walk-in consultations are available from 9am until 6pm, Monday - Friday.

We also offer a separate ‘ear wax removal via microsuctioning’ service each TUESDAY. 📣EAR, EAR!! NEW SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣

👂👂Our ear specialist is running an ear micro-suctioning clinic today. 👂 👂

If you are concerned you may have a build up of wax in your ears and would like a FREE check-up please pop in to see us today (Tuesday, 15th April).

Our ear specialist will examine your ears free of charge, if she feels you’d benefit from micro-suctioning we can then arrange an appointment at a later date. We charge £45 to remove wax from one ear and £60 from both.

Our fabulous specialist Vicki, works each Tuesday and appointments take around 20 - 30 mins so it’s advisable to book ahead!

NEW SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:

Each Tuesday Treorchy Pharmacy will be offering ‘ear wax removal via microsuctioning.’ Please note this is a PAID PRIVATE SERVICE.

The initial consultation (to see if removal of wax is necessary) is FREE, however if microsuctioning is deemed necessary we then charge £45 for removal of wax from one ear, £60 for removal of wax from both ears. Appointments last around 20-30 minutes.

Please note this service is not funded via the NHS. For private services it’s advisable to phone us on: 01443 772183 to book a slot with our specialist.
