My Thermomix Experience Review.
I walked into this journey wondering if I was being crazy. Such a big outgoing at £1345, would it live up to the hype? would I get the most out of it?
Conclusion: I’m blown away! Here’s why…
I don’t enjoy complex cooking very much. I prefer a one pot cook up really. But that can be pretty limiting.
I’m quite chaotic in the kitchen and I find the whole experience pretty stressful. This has lead Alex to do the lions share of cooking, bless him xx
While we sometimes enjoy a creative burst, we often get into that rut where we eat the same foods on repeat. It doesn’t feel particularly healthy or inspiring.
My hopes for the Thermomix was that it would streamline and simplify the cooking experience so I could be more happily involved and adventurous.
Well I’ve got that! …and more!
I’ve done more cooking in the last few weeks than I’ve done in months. I’ve made things I’d never have attempted before and I feel energised, not exhausted.
Stand out highlights:
The multi level cooking means I can create separate meal elements at once with it still feeling like a one pot cook up. I’ve even made a two course meal/lunch and dinner (soup and a main) in one hit!
As you cook protein and vegetables in the top, the flavourful juices and nutrients move down into the jug, while aromatic herbs and spices rise through the food above.
Having the precision scales in the base means I weigh stuff in as I go which massively saves time and mess.
I barely have to pre chop anything now. I skin and quarter my onions, throw them in the jug with some oil and a whole garlic clove, press a button and hey presto, I have a beautifully browned (not burnt) flavour base. Same goes for grinding and toasting spices. And while the magic is happening I’m prepping for the next bit or tiding up in calm trusting bliss!
I thought we had rice cooking down after all these years. Then I cooked it in the thermomix and my goodness, it’s so much fluffier. And I didn’t check on it once.
I can make dough, prove it and have it oven ready in a flash.
It ferments, so I will never have to buy yogurt or kefir again.
It has really stable cooking temperatures and uses the lowest temps possible when heating. This preserves nutrient content and makes for really flavourful foods like curries, and casseroles, even when you don’t have time to slow cook.
The app is addictively inspiring and helps me plan meals into the days and weeks ahead. It has a really intuitive shopping list function that helps you separate ingredients you have from ingredients you need. Even shopping has become easier, more streamlined and money saving. If you want, it will add your shopping list to your home delivery account . I feel like I’m living in the Jetsons kitchen.
It has a super effective pre cleaning function that is often all you need for it to be ready to go again.
There’s so much more it’s capable of that combines the skill set many kitchen appliances making it space saving too.
Down sides:
It’s not an oven so some recipes need to out source elements occasionally. I’ll take it, no one’s perfect!
It’s expensive. Yes, it’s an investment. It’s German made and you can feel the quality, I expect it to last. However, I’m wasting less food (it tells me what to do with my random fridge and cupboard bits), I’m shopping more wisely and we are buying less takeaways and convenience foods. I’m easily saving £60+ per month already.
My final thoughts:
I feel like a new person. I’m invigorated. I did not expect that.
I can see why chefs have these in their private and commercial kitchens. It makes cooking consistent, clean, easy and pleasurable.
It would be perfect for people learning to cook or seasoned pro’s alike.
Starting from £30 per month the savings out way the cost imo. I feel like I’ve invested in myself and my families wellbeing.
I will be promoting it in store. If you want to know more I’m happy to discuss things further or show it to you in action.
