Wondered what you can do for your feet to ensure they are protected from the wintry weather?

First, make sure that you have sensible and sturdy footwear. It can be tempting to wear shoes that are more aesthetically pleasing but your feet will thank you if you go for the former! This includes making sure your shoes aren’t too tight to try and reduce the risk of developing conditions such as chilblains.

It is a good idea to wear socks or tights in the winter as well to try and regulate the temperature of your feet! It is important to try and keep your whole body warm though and not just your feet.

If you develop blisters right after getting new shoes please do not be tempted to wear them in. The formation of blisters indicates that they are the wrong type of shoes for you altogether.

If you are still concerned about your feet and/or are worried you have an infection then it is time to call in an expert! Give us a call on 01442 249080.

We often get lots of queries regarding what treatments we offer for verrucas. First of all, verrucas do often go of their own accord within 2 years. However, if they seem to be spreading or they are painful then it is worth visiting us! We offer 4 different treatments.

One option is freezing which doesn’t often require many treatments. This treatment aims to create an immune response reaction to it.

Another option is salicylic acid which breaks down the layers of skin which allows the infected skin cells to be easily removed.

A third option is needling which is a minor surgery and involves a local anaesthetic to be administered. The idea here is to inject infected cells in to create an immune response to destroy the virus.

And finally, the newest treatment on the market, which is Swift. This is where heat is applied to the verruca. People are usually advised to go for this one if they have tried multiple other verruca treatments which haven’t worked.

It is important to note that the prices and the success rates do vary but, of course, no treatment is able to be 100% guaranteed to succeed.

We would recommend booking an initial assessment with one of our podiatrists if interested and they will be able to go through all of these options in more detail and answer any questions you may have! Just call us on 01442 249080!

Corns and callus is created when a certain part of the foot is getting excessive pressure on it and so the foot builds up and thickens the skin to try and protect it more.

If you believe you have either of these it is advised that you do not cut it off yourself. Use a pumice stone or a foot file if you wish to.

At Betafeet we deal with these issues and many more! Just give us a call on 01442 249080 and we can get you booked in for a home visit or a trip to one of our clinics in Tring or Hemel Hempstead.

Raynaud’s - Why do we need to be aware of it at this time of year? Because it is caused by cold weather and it’s effect on the blood vessels.

The blood vessels will tighten when exposed to the cold and limit the circulation.

Symptoms include blisters, redness, discolouration and pain!

Make sure you wear well-fitting shoes that will keep you warm!

Any concerns or questions around Raynaud’s? Give our podiatry team a call on 01442 249080!
