What does somatic mean? 🌿

For years I did talking therapies. They helped me untangle my thoughts and process experiences — but I hit a wall. My body was still responding the same: panic, tension, overwhelm.

In 2023, my therapist suggested somatic therapy. This is body-based healing — centred around the nervous system and the body’s memory of safety and fear.

The shift wasn’t instant. But slowly, I began to notice change.
✨ I could sit with discomfort instead of being swept away by it.
✨ I didn’t always spiral into panic attacks.
✨ I could locate sensations in my body and allow them to be seen, felt, and soothed.

That’s the essence of somatic work:
We don’t need to rehash every painful memory to heal.
We simply need to let the frightened parts of us feel safe again.

When those parts know they are held by the adult we’ve become, they don’t scream out in fear when life feels similar to the past. We build relationship with them — and slowly, safety, peace, and wholeness return.

This is the work I am trained in and the work I guide my clients through. I won’t heal you. I won’t fix you. But I will guide you towards healing yourself.

If fear is holding you back and you sense there’s something ready to shift, this work can support you to move forward with safety and confidence.

My work is rooted in guiding you back to body-based living, restoring connection, truth and authenticity through practices that nourish both the nervous system and the soul.

• Holistic Therapy (75–120 mins, on my boat)
Massage, reflexology, and facials offered in a peaceful waterside setting. Each treatment is tailored to you, blending relaxation with restoration, helping the body to soften, release, and reset.

• Somatic Experiencing® (60 mins, online – minimum of 4 sessions)
Together, we follow a 4-stage journey designed uniquely from your intake form:
1. Resourcing & safety – finding anchors of stability in your body.
2. Awareness & tracking – gently noticing where tension, numbness, or aliveness shows up.
3. Release & expression – working with sound, movement, and breath to free stored survival energy.
4. Integration – grounding new pathways of regulation and authenticity.
This work supports healing from trauma and stress by restoring your nervous system’s natural rhythm.

• 1:1 Yoga, Breathwork & Meditation (75–105 mins, online or on the boat)
Personalised sessions that weave yin yoga, breath awareness, and guided meditation. Each session supports you to slow down, feel more at home in your body, and cultivate practices that meet you where you are — whether that’s grounding, energising, or deepening your self-connection.

Hi, I’m Jen.
I live on a widebeam canal boat in Marsworth and have been working as a holistic therapist for over 20 years. I’m the founder of Shakti Healing, a practice devoted to helping people release outdated conditioning and trauma stored in the body so they can reconnect with their own truth.

My work is centred around creating a space where people feel safe, supported, and able to fully relax. Through bodywork and embodied practices, I support clients in down-regulating their nervous systems and softening the tensions—both physical and emotional—that they may be carrying.

I offer:
• Massage therapy to identify and gently ease patterns of physical tension
• Reflexology to explore where emotional or energetic imbalances might be held in the body
• Holistic facials to release the often-overlooked stress held in the face, jaw, scalp, neck and shoulders

Alongside hands-on treatments, I teach a unique style of yoga I’ve developed called Yinquiry—a blend of yin yoga and self-inquiry designed to help you tune into your body, notice your patterns, and return to presence. I offer 1:1 sessions on the boat or can travel to homes and workplaces for larger groups or classes.

I’m currently deepening my work by training as a somatic practitioner, which will soon allow me to offer guided somatic processing sessions to support the safe release of trauma held in the body.

These sessions are deeply restorative, offering slow, firm, and intuitive massage designed to calm your nervous system and bring you back into your body. Using grounding touch, breath-led rhythm, and an awareness of where tension hides, I work gently but with depth, helping to ease physical tightness and emotional overwhelm. Nourish & Restore is a 4-hour yoga workshop designed to soothe your nervous system, replenish your energy, and cultivate deep relaxation through two profoundly healing practices: Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra.

What to Expect:
🧘🏼‍♀️ Yin Yoga - A slow, meditative practice where poses are held for several minutes, allowing for deep release in the fascia (connective tissue). Yin helps calm the nervous system, increase flexibility, and create space in both the body and mind. It’s a beautiful way to ground yourself and let go of built-up tension.
🍲 A Nourishing Lunch - Enjoy a wholesome meal designed to support your well-being, giving you time to pause, connect, and absorb the benefits of your practice.
💤 Yoga Nidra - Also known as “yogic sleep,” this guided meditation brings you into a state between wakefulness and sleep, where deep healing and restoration can occur. Yoga Nidra helps reduce stress, improve sleep, and reset the nervous system, leaving you feeling refreshed and renewed.
