𝗖𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘁 ‼️

I got to meet gorgeous Ruby today to kick-start her support. This little cutie is 20 weeks old and a multipoo. Following a scary encounter with another dog, she finds others overwhelming. Ruby did so well in session - onwards and upwards for Team Ruby. 💪🐾

𝓕𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓥𝓪𝓾𝓵𝓽 - Case Study: O’Malley

O’Malley is a gorgeous cat and, in late 2024, he found himself navigating a big change when his owner and partner moved in together. O’Malley started targeting one of them with aggressive behaviour, which can feel deeply personal when you’re on the receiving end, even though it never is.

We began working together in the latter part of
‘24 with a clear, structured behaviour modification plan. The focus stayed firmly on O’Malley’s emotional safety, the pressure points within the home, and how predictable routines and thoughtful environmental changes could help him feel secure again.

By January ‘25, I shared their update. Watching it back now, it’s hard to believe how quickly those months have passed. What stands out most is the commitment of his carers. They were patient, observant, and consistent. They followed the behaviour modification plan carefully, even when progress felt slow and the work repetitive. That steady, unglamorous consistency is where change actually happens.

And O’Malley? He took it from there. 🐈‍⬛

With the significant drops in temperature and warnings of more ice and snowy blasts on route via Storm Goretti, it’s important to be aware that, just like us, cold weather changes can influence how many animals cope day to day. Comfort, movement, routines, and behaviour can be impacted as conditions become colder.

So here’s my article 𝓕𝓻𝓸𝓶 𝓽𝓱𝓮 𝓥𝓪𝓾𝓵𝓽 with tips to guide you and your pets through this inclement weather. Safe warm and stay safe.

"Work examining human-animal relationships shows that interactions are shaped by emotion, expectation, and context on both sides of the relationship, influencing behaviour and learning processes across species. This does not suggest that humans cause behaviour problems. Rather, it highlights that behaviour develops within a shared system, one in which human actions and emotional states are always part of the picture.

Understanding pet behaviour through this lens moves us away from blame and towards something far more useful. For pet owners and guardians, it reframes behaviour as neither a personal failing nor evidence of an animal being difficult, dominant, or broken. Behaviour is information. It reflects how an animal is coping within the world they are living in, and within the expectations placed upon them."

To understand more about why behaviour in dogs and cats is never just about the animal, read my article at https://www.hannegrice.com/advice/why-behaviour-in-dogs-and-cats-is-never-just-about-the-animal/

🎄 Today marks the final story, sharing some favourites from my 𝒜𝓃𝒾𝓂𝒶𝓁𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝐻𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎 series. So, it seems fitting that as we kick start 2026, we end these 12 Days of Christmas with a tale that made headlines thirty years ago.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: Dolly the sheep, was the first mammal successfully cloned from an adult somatic cell, emerged from a laboratory in Scotland and quickly entered global public consciousness. Dolly’s legacy extended well beyond scientific achievement. Her existence prompted sustained public debate about identity, ageing, ethics, and the responsibilities that accompany technological possibility.🧬

📓Across these twelve stories, we’ve moved from wolves influencing ceasefires and cats shaping court cases, to belief, behaviour, forensics, and biotechnology. Thank you to everyone that has watched, liked, shared and commented. I really appreciate you following along with this festive return to the vault. What was your favourite?

🎄 12 Days of Christmas - sharing favourite stories from my 𝒜𝓃𝒾𝓂𝒶𝓁𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝐻𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎 series.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: Lady Wonder, the horse reported to have psychic abilities and credited with helping police in two cases involving missing children.

Was she genuinely psychic, or was something else shaping what people believed they were witnessing?

🎄 12 Days of Christmas, sharing favourite stories from my 𝒜𝓃𝒾𝓂𝒶𝓁𝓈 𝒾𝓃 𝐻𝒾𝓈𝓉𝑜𝓇𝓎 series.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: On the Eastern Front of World War I, starving wolves began attacking soldiers on both sides, leading to reports of temporary ceasefires and joint responses. What sets this story apart is that the animals were wild, unmanaged, and indiscriminate, and their presence reshaped human behaviour on both sides of the line.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: Snowball, the cat whose fur provided crucial forensic evidence in a criminal case, marking a first for the use of animal DNA in court. 🧬

𝙃𝙖𝙥𝙥𝙮 𝙉𝙚𝙬 𝙔𝙚𝙖𝙧 𝙚𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙤𝙣𝙚!

The New Year often feels like a natural point to take stock, revisit training and take a fresh look at what is, and isn’t, working. For example, a recall that works in the garden but not in the park, or a sit that holds at home but disappears when visitors arrive. These patterns are commonly put down to stubbornness, naughtiness, or training being “lost”. More often, they reflect how learning transfers across contexts.

If this feels familiar, you may find my article helpful - see https://www.hannegrice.com/walk-the-dog/new-year-new-thinking-when-dog-training-doesnt-transfer-beyond-the-home/

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐚𝐮𝐥𝐭: Big cats in the UK. Reported sightings and recurring claims, examined through available evidence and historical context.
