Troon Therapies

Troon Therapies Be extra kind to yourself. You have been dealing with the emotional impact of these past several months. Negative emotions can linger and re-emerge for us all.

As a Trauma-Informed Somatic Practitioner, my therapeutic approach to health and well-being is deeply rooted in over 25 years of experience, and enriched by a diverse range of healing modalities. It is normal to have lots of different feelings, from worry to waves of panic and feelings of anxiety. Our brain wants predictable activity and close contact so we can relax our vigilant nervous system. Social and physical distancing has interrupted this predictable activity and close contact. As a result, we are experiencing emotional numbness and vulnerability. Practices and body-based approaches that manage stress reactions in the moment are crucial for us right now. A body-based approach, through embodied, trauma informed yoga and attuned touch, is important for our mental health and well-being. It is essential that we foster counter emotions and create a safe space within ourselves. If you have felt a negative impact on your mental health and physical well-being, please get in touch for one of my, 'Embodied Escape' packages. My therapeutic approach to health and well-being is very much informed by my twenty years experience as a bodyworker, energy healer and embodied, trauma informed yoga teacher, supporting individuals, families and groups who have experienced high levels of stress, depression, anxiety and trauma.

A regular gratitude practice reduces the brain's alarm system.

Calming the amygdala lowers stress, breaks negative thought loops, and fosters longterm emotional stability.

If you're feeling [overwhelmed], form a loop around your body.

Starting by focusing your attention on your left foot, moving up to your left buttock.

Continue training your mind to focus on the left hand and the left shoulder.

We're practicing training our attention on our arms and legs.

We choose the arms and legs because there is less emotional material there.

Focus your awareness on your right shoulder, and your right hand. Finish with on your right buttock and right foot.

You can also use this as a way to slowly come back into the body.

You cannot THINK your way to a feeling of safety.

I know the indoor pool I swim in, is warm. I've been swimming there for over a year, usually 5 or 6 times a week. Cognitively I know the water is warm, but I still held my breath this morning.

As the warmth of the water, and the familiarity submerged me, I exhaled. The buoyancy of the water held me, and I FELT safe.

Contraction is an automatic, involuntary survival mechanism, that's designed to protect the body, and mind from threat.

Expansion is a healthy sign of releasing tension or trauma. It's where you transition from a state of survival (contraction), to a state of safety (expansion).

Expanding or Contracting ?
You could try checking in with your physical sensations, emotions, and cognitive patterns to see if you are operating from a place of open curiosity or protected tension. Expansion represents growth and connection. Contraction represents a protective, restrictive state often triggered by stress.

A healthy nervous system moves between these two states. It's common to feel contraction just before a period of expansion.

If you're consistently stuck in contraction you might like to try deep breathing, self compassion, and gentle movement.

"When you swaddled my feet & legs I could have cried" - Reflexology client feedback.

A nurturing wrapped treatment reinforces a sense of deserving care. It's especially useful in combating feelings of overwhelm and emotional fatigue. Swaddling the feet & lower legs soothes the nervous system by mimicking the secure feeling of being in the womb. The wrapping symbolises security and physical containment. It's a grounding mechanism that calms the nervous system through emotional regulation.

I have had Reflexology treatments where the therapist alternates between wrapping and working on each foot simultaneously. I prefer the method of swaddling one leg at a time so the treatment is focused and you remain present. Combined with rocking and cupping around the ankle contributes to wellbeing.

Starting on the right foot working on past issues before moving onto the left foot where we work on what's happening in the present.

As a Trauma Informed Practitioner your soles are in safe hands.
