Troon Therapies

Troon Therapies Be extra kind to yourself. You have been dealing with the emotional impact of these past several months. Negative emotions can linger and re-emerge for us all.

As a Trauma-Informed Somatic Practitioner, my therapeutic approach to health and well-being is deeply rooted in over 25 years of experience, and enriched by a diverse range of healing modalities. It is normal to have lots of different feelings, from worry to waves of panic and feelings of anxiety. Our brain wants predictable activity and close contact so we can relax our vigilant nervous system. S

ocial and physical distancing has interrupted this predictable activity and close contact. As a result, we are experiencing emotional numbness and vulnerability. Practices and body-based approaches that manage stress reactions in the moment are crucial for us right now. A body-based approach, through embodied, trauma informed yoga and attuned touch, is important for our mental health and well-being. It is essential that we foster counter emotions and create a safe space within ourselves. If you have felt a negative impact on your mental health and physical well-being, please get in touch for one of my, 'Embodied Escape' packages. My therapeutic approach to health and well-being is very much informed by my twenty years experience as a bodyworker, energy healer and embodied, trauma informed yoga teacher, supporting individuals, families and groups who have experienced high levels of stress, depression, anxiety and trauma.

If your sweet dreams aren't so sweet, collect a small bunch of lavender, and place it beside your bed.

Scent bypasses the logical brain, and acts on the limbic system - the brain's emotional centre.

Lavender, chamomile, and rose are proven to decrease cortisol levels, and reduce physical signs of anxiety, making you less likely to experience the hyperarousal that triggers nightmares.

If you do startle through the night, it's very grounding to have a familiar, and favourable scent.

Use that for an 'anchor', as you begin to regulate your breathing.

As you breathe in, notice the smell, then exhale slowly and fully.

Inhale : I'm breathing in lavender.

Exhale: I'm exhaling protective purple.

Using your own words will be more effective.

You might like to view any awakenings as an opportunity to practice an act of self compassion, and an opportunity to be mindful of each moment.

Even one mindful moment makes a difference.

Curiosity is a powerful antidote to trauma.

Rabbits are natural prey animals and can fall prey to rough handling from humans.

Flossie, my adopted rabbit has adjusted to her new home with me.

Here she is feeling safe and curious enough to explore her world.

Trauma creates neural pathways that prioritise threat detection and survival.

Curiosity shifts the brain out of defensive fear based patterns, and into open exploration by approaching emotions/ bodily sensations with curiosity rather than criticism or judgement.

This open exploration signals to the nervous system that it is safe to explore those feelings.

Practicing with curiosity sounds like, 'What am I noticing right now", as opposed to, "What is wrong with me".

Trauma can leave feelings of helplessness or feelings of being out of control. Curiosity puts you back in control.

The Somatic Healing & Release Massage I offer blends somatic tracking, along with pandiculations and myofascia release to reset the nervous system.

Healing is not about being happy all the time. Healing is about feeling safe, and authentic in your own body. You cannot think or read your way to a feeling of safety.

Feeling safe is a foundational state of well-being where the nervous system trusts that it is ok to exist, to relax, and be present without constant vigilance.

A Flossie Flop - the ultimate sign of trust, and relaxation. As a prey animal, rabbits are naturally wired to be on high alert. Flopping shows they're perfectly safe letting their guard down.

Meet Flossie, my adopted rabbit. Her previous owners were highly unsuitable, and she's with me now. Rabbit's are highly sensitive to emotions. They can pick up pheromones that get released when humans are stressed, and they are highly attuned to changes in tone of voice. They can hear sound from up to two miles away. As prey animals they are naturally cautious, but they can form tight bonds with companions. When they feel safe they respond with comforting behaviours like licking, and grooming. She jumps and twists when she's excited especially at dusk. it's her favourite time.
