Last week we had a restorative and pranayama theme, with a focus on Antara and Bahya Kumbhaka, internal and external retention of the breath.
With the Cornishman away for a week, I began to dwell on the whole notion of space, yes in the breath, but also many other in-between places.
Think of the moment you know you are about to wake up, but, there are a pure few seconds before consciousness reaches the surface and your day begins.
The moment in the middle of the day when like the sun, our energy is high.
In the evening the opposite, we slowly draw ourselves back in and become quiet.
And bedtime, tucking in, perfect stillness before sleep.
In yoga we have a strong focus on creating space between joints. There are spaces between poses, even within the stages of individual poses. The space between, body, mind and breath. The more you think about it......
My favourite 'in-between' is after savasana, savoring the benefits of the practice and preparing for the rest of the day.
In Sanskrit there is a word for this concept, Sandhi. I think it is a beautiful thing to feel that when we need 'space' it is always right there, within us.
The photos show another in-between. Where I walked to and where I had come from yesterday! Any guesses?
And on that note, this week, legs!
