Senior Support Worker Gemma Sheppard recently took on a leadership role to assist the West team during its expansion. Currently pursuing her diploma, Gemma has been actively supporting the leadership team with various tasks over the past year to enhance her understanding of the role. Provider services expressed their deep appreciation for her contributions during this busy period, emphasizing that they could not have managed without her assistance.

Gemma reflected on her experience as Team Leader for several months, noting that it provided her with valuable insights into the role and served as an excellent opportunity for career development, for which she is truly grateful.

🌟 Career Progression🌟

Hi, I’m Becky, and I’m proud to be a First Responder with the West Reablement Team at Wiltshire Council.

I began my journey on April 1st, 2025, joining as a Rehabilitation Support Worker when our Home First service transitioned to the council. Since then, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to grow in my role and recently stepped into a new position as a First Responder.

From day one, I’ve been welcomed with kindness, enthusiasm, and unwavering support from my colleagues and the senior leadership team. Their encouragement has made my transition smooth and rewarding, and I’m truly grateful for the guidance I’ve received.

I’m thoroughly enjoying this new chapter and am excited about what the future holds with Wiltshire Council.

On Wednesday, the West Provider and Operational teams came together for a relaxed and cheerful picnic outside County Hall. With pizza in hand and cakes to share, it was a perfect opportunity to connect, collaborate, and celebrate the great work we do together.

🌟 Meet Lizz! 🌟

Lizz is the newest Senior Reablement Worker in our North Team, based at Monkton Park, Chippenham. With over 20 years of experience in care, she brings a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and dedication to her new role.

Here’s what Lizz had to say about her journey:

“Hi, I’m Lizz and I recently started as a senior reablement worker for the North team. I’ve worked in care most of my adult life—starting as a nanny, then moving into adult social care, supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, and complex needs.

In my previous role, I was a PBS team leader, helping a young autistic man transition into his own home with 24/7 support. While it was rewarding, I felt isolated and ready for a new challenge.

When I saw the opportunity with Wiltshire Council, I knew it was the right move. The role offers growth, support, and a fantastic team environment. There’s been a lot to learn, but I already feel at home and excited for what’s ahead.”

Work with a range of conditions, from neurological conditions like stroke and Parkinson’s to musculoskeletal issues such as arthritis and fractures. Support patients recovering after hospital discharge, working closely with our Reablement team to encourage mobility and maximise their potential.
