Sound on 🐦🎶 what a beautiful morning.
Every month a therapy magazine drops through my door. It's part of my continuous development to read it alongside other forms of CPD.
A beautiful article about a therapist working with children using play and creative arts. Definitely something I bring into my work, it was good to hear how others to do this. Made better read with the sun on my skin and birds in my ears.

Working creatively in therapy with me is used for many outcomes, none of which are end product based.
Some clients like to draw and paint whilst we talk, some use art materials to represent a feeling which words can't explain.
Some clients explore tactile material like clay and for my younger clients, slime.
We work together, exploring feelings to gain greater understanding of your world to move into a place of emotional stability through compassionate understanding, moving forward, feeling empowered and less burdened.

Sporting rage in young males looks like one thing on the surface, but underneath that rage and explosive anger are so many more emotions.

I have worked with many young males who want to understand and work with these overwhelming feelings and responses.

Counselling offers these males a space to understand their emotions, feel validated for strong emotions, learn about their brain and responses in a compassionate space of non-judgement.

These players take away feelings of embarrassment quite often which effects their confidence and at times the enjoyment of the playing.

If left unprocessed these feelings can fester and negatively impact their self belief and their relationships.

Being a young male is tough - If you are a parent or a coach of someone you see struggling please feel able to message me to discuss how I might offer support.

👨‍🎓This morning many young people will be celebrating their results and some may be feeling less happy with their results.
Academic success is one measure of who you are as an individual. That needs celebrating for sure, these results don't come easy.

🫶Not everyone comes into this process at the same point. Many will have experienced a toxic school environment, had personal challenges out of their control or had to contend with a learning disability.
The personal results from these challenges are not scored but you and your support network will know how amazing you are.
Seeing you combat fear of travelling on public transport, trusting a new group of peers to be friendly, working to deadlines or having to retake Maths and English even though it remains challenging.

Well done EVERYONE for what YOU have achieved ✨

🔋How's your Social Battery?
This can be a helpful way to reflect on how energised or depleted you might be feeling after particular events.

🔌Did seeing that friend energise you? Did that large group event depleat you?
Checking in with yourself after socialising can help you to know yourself better and prepare or repair better in the future.

🍪If having some time alone before, or baking cookies with your favourite podcast on helps you to feel energised then you will be more in control of your social battery.

✨Regulating your nervous system, tuning into your body's sensations, working with setting boundaries, self compassion and effective communication all help you to build healthy responses to stress.

Therapy block sessions can be a great way to maintain mental health and wellbeing.
These block sessions offer young people a discounted price to afford a space to talk through a current issue or to check-in with how they're doing on a regular basis.
These blocks can be repeated ( many clients do ) but the commitment is short term which can allow you time to take breaks and return when and if you feel it would benefit your wellbeing to do so.

Dan Hughes talks about his PACE model of working with children and teens who are challenging to connect with at times and push adults' boundaries to the point where things get out of control.

This model works from 4 key elements: Playfulness, Acceptance, Curiosity, and Empathy. In this interview, there are many great examples of times we all can relate to as parents and carers of young people.

I use this model within my counselling practice, as a youth worker, as a parent, as well as in relationships generally. It's also part of my self-care when I am being hard on myself.

P.A.C.E. stands for playfulness, acceptance, curiosity, and empathy. It was developed by Dan Hughes, PhD and we are lucky enough to have him join us for this...
