πŸ’› Art with Purpose

All of Nicola’s work is inspired by her journey of recovery and focus on mental well-being. She uses bright colours and motivational themes, and even donates a portion of profits from her cookbook My Super Sweet Recovery Cookbook to the eating disorder charity Beat.

This exhibition is about healing, honesty, and hope β€” and we’re honoured to be part of it.

Why drop-ins and social connection help

Research and lived experience show that regular social contact can:

✨ Reduce loneliness and isolation
Being around others helps reduce feelings of loneliness, which are strongly linked to depression and anxiety. Our drop-ins offer a consistent, welcoming space to connect.

✨ Provide emotional support
Peer support means spending time with people who understand. Sharing experiences can reduce stigma, offer reassurance, and help people feel less alone.

✨ Build a sense of belonging
Feeling part of a community boosts confidence, self-worth, and purpose. Drop-ins help people feel accepted and valued.

✨ Support thinking and wellbeing
Social interaction keeps the mind active and engaged, supporting concentration, memory, and overall wellbeing.

✨ Offer low-pressure support
Our drop-ins are easy to access, with no referral needed. This helps people get support early and can prevent problems from reaching crisis point.

✨ Boost feel-good chemicals
Positive social contact helps release natural mood-boosting chemicals like endorphins and oxytocin, which reduce stress and promote feelings of safety and connection.

As a peer-run group, we understand that sometimes the most important thing is simply being around other people in a safe, friendly, and understanding environment.

🧘 Monday Meditation at Trowbridge Service Users Group

Start your week with a gentle, guided meditation in a calm and supportive space at Trowbridge Service Users Group.

Your mental health is important. Taking time to slow down, breathe, and be around others can help ease stress and support emotional wellbeing. Our meditation sessions are part of a wider range of activities β€” including arts and crafts and social time β€” all designed to support mental health in a safe, peer-led environment.

How meditation can help

Meditation offers both short-term relief and long-term benefits, including:

✨ Reducing stress
Meditation helps lower stress levels and supports relaxation, which can reduce tension, blood pressure, and overwhelm.

✨ Supporting emotional balance
By learning to notice thoughts and emotions without reacting straight away, meditation can help you process feelings more calmly and reduce emotional reactivity.

✨ Building self-awareness
Meditation helps you understand your own thought patterns and emotional responses, making it easier to step away from unhelpful or self-critical thinking.

✨ Easing anxiety and low mood
Mindfulness-based practices have been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression and can help prevent relapse for people with recurring depression.

✨ Improving focus and concentration
Regular practice can strengthen attention, memory, and problem-solving skills β€” often described as training your attention like a muscle.

✨ Supporting brain health
Research shows meditation can lead to positive changes in the brain, including reduced activity in areas linked to fear and stress, and increased activity in areas linked to emotional regulation and memory.

✨ Encouraging connection
Meditation can increase self-compassion, empathy, and kindness, helping to reduce feelings of isolation and support healthier relationships.

As a peer-run group, we understand that sometimes the most important thing is simply being around other people in a safe, friendly, and non-judgemental space.
