As some of you may have seen over the past month Todds Pit Lake has gained a nice border. Our awesome volunteers have created barley straw sausages which have now been placed around the lake. This will hopefully prevent or at least delay the presence of blue green algae which the park has suffered with over the past few years. Our team is keeping an eye on the barley straw and regularly going round to check them. This has been recommended by the Environmental agency, and it is used by many other lakes as a prevention method. If you are interested in finding out more, take a look at this article written by Jonathon Newman published by the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology Natural Environmental Research Council in 2012 https://www.researchgate.net/publication/233867874_Centre_for_Aquatic_Plant_Management_INFORMATION_SHEET_1_CONTROL_OF_ALGAE_WITH_BARLEY_STRAW .
