For any water enthusiasts, protecting your ears is super important. The prevention is definitely better than the cure! We commonly see ‘exostosis’, these are bony growths which occur from regular cold water and air exposure.

We are able to make varying moulded ear protection for water enthusiasts.
The advantages of custom made moulds are, they give a better seal, and keep the damaging cold air and water out of your ears. 🌊👂🏻

Many will have seen Tracey at our St Austell clinic at The Merlin - Cornwall's Neuro Therapy Centre or at The Dental Hygiene Suite in Truro.
She has many years of experience with ears, and provides the ‘gold standard’ microsuction, alongside other wax removal methods. Tracey is enhanced DBS checked, HCPC/ AHCS registered and fully insured.

In 1999 she started as a trainee Audiologist at The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. After completing her course she was offered a permanent position within the ENT and Audiology department. Shortly after being part of the NHS pilot scheme to roll out the digitalisation of hearing aids, she moved into a Senior Audiologist post.

Tracey has worked with both adults and children. Performing many hearing tests, fitting hearing aids, rehabilitating, balance testing and more specialist testing with children.

Like Chantelle, she has worked alongside professionals such as; ENT consultants, hearing therapists, aural care nurses, and the extended Audiology team.

After 21 years in the health service, Duchy Ear Care became a reality. Tracey now enjoys providing the mid Cornwall community with a professional, thorough, and personal ear care service.

You may have seen Chantelle at the Cornish Therapy Centre in Redruth. She has been providing ear wax removal services from the centre over the last 5 years.

She started her Audiology career in 2003, completing her training within the Audiology and ENT department at The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro.

She stayed within the department, where she was able to work her way upto a Chief Audiologist.

With over 20 years of clinical experience in Audiology, she gained a wealth of knowledge. Working with both adults and children in differing areas including; specialist hearing assessment, balance testing, tinnitus rehabilitation, and hearing aid work. She has worked alongside other professionals, such as ENT consultants, hearing therapists, teachers of the deaf, and other hearing care professionals.

Importantly, Chantelle is registered with The Academy of Health Care Sciences (AHCS) and the Health and Care Professions Council. She is fully insured and enhanced DBS checked.

Chantelle continues to provide a successful and professional service in the Redruth/Camborne area, and is able to offer great advice about ear care, noise/ ear protection and swim/surf moulds.

The aim of this day has always been to raise awareness of hearing loss, and ear health. Also to highlight and encourage preventive measures, such as safe listening habits and early screening.

The official theme for 2026 is :
“From communities to classrooms: hearing care for all children.” 

This highlights the importance of:
👂🏻 Preventing avoidable childhood hearing loss, which affects around 90 million children and adolescents worldwide.
👂🏻 Promoting early identification and care for children with ear or hearing issues.
👂🏻 Using communities and school settings as natural platforms for screening, raising awareness, education, and referral to care services. 

Common, preventable and treatable causes of hearing loss—such as otitis media with effusion, chronic suppurative otitis media, and impacted ear wax—remain widely prevalent in children. However at times children can also have progressive losses which can lie undetected.

Locally in Cornwall we have a couple of systems in place to help with early detection; The Newborn hearing screen program, and school hearing screens.
Early identification of hearing problems, can help prevent issues with speech and language, cognitive and social development.

Referrals can be made by your GP, school nurse or health visitor if you have any concerns about a child’s hearing.

The vestibular system is the part of your inner ear that helps you keep your balance and know which way your head is moving.

Think of it like your body’s built-in level and motion sensor.

It helps you to:
🧍 Stay upright
🚶 Walk without falling
👀 Keep your eyes steady when your head moves
🔄 Know if you’re turning, tilting, or moving up and down

Inside your inner ear, there are tiny fluid-filled tubes called semicircular canals and small balance organs called the utricle and saccule.

When you move your head:
1. The fluid inside moves.
2. Tiny hair cells detect that movement.
3. Signals are sent to your brain.
4. Your brain adjusts your muscles and eye movements to keep you balanced.

If you spin around quickly and stop:
• The fluid in your inner ear keeps moving for a moment.
• Your brain thinks you’re still spinning.
• You feel dizzy.

That’s your vestibular system at work!
