🎄 Christmas jumper joy & togetherness at ich! 🎄

👦 The 11th of December is Christmas Jumper Day, a great fundraising initiative.

🫴 But Christmas jumpers aren’t just for helping children, at In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, where we care for older people in the comfort of their own home, this day is a chance for older people and their carers to share laughter, warmth, and festive cheer.

💁‍♂️ Growing with grief: Compassionate support at ICH 💁‍♀️

🌼 Grief is a universal experience that affects everyone at some point in their lives. During National Grief Awareness Week, the theme “Growing with Grief” reminds us that, although loss inevitably changes us, love and resilience can help hope to blossom once more.

🫴 At In Caring Hands (ICH) in St Austell, Cornwall, our carers are committed to walking alongside the older people they care for as they navigate the complexities of grief.

👂 Our approach is centred on compassionate companionship, whether it’s providing a listening ear, assisting with daily routines, or simply being present. These acts of care and empathy can have a profound impact, offering comfort and reassurance during difficult times.

🤗 Family members may also play a vital role in supporting their loved ones through grief. Simple gestures, such as checking in regularly, sharing familiar stories, mentioning their deceased loved one’s name, and creating small moments of connection, all reinforce the message that they are not alone, but loved and cherished.

😻 Companionship: The heartbeat of older person care 😻

🫴 Here at In Caring Hands (ICH) in Cornwall, we provide care for older people in the comfort of their own homes.

🤗 As we age, maintaining social connections often becomes progressively more challenging. Our carers frequently observe that as our service users become less mobile, they begin to experience feelings of isolation, as daily outings are not as easy as they once were. This is a time when companionship becomes even more essential — it brings with it happiness, reassurance, and a genuine sense of belonging.

🐶 Companionship doesn’t always come in human form; just as important can be the company of a pet. Caring for an animal instils a sense of purpose, helps structure daily routines, and brings joy into everyday life.

🐈 Even though a pet can’t answer their owner, they are still great for talking to and even if the response doesn’t come in words, it often does in acts of affection - whether it’s the joyful wag of a dog's tail or the soothing purr of a cat, these simple things let older people feel needed and cherished.

🫂 At ICH in St Austell, we deeply understand the importance of companionship. Our carers provide dedicated support within the familiar surroundings of our service users’ own homes, helping them to feel connected, valued, and never alone.

👉 If you know someone who might benefit from a little extra help at home, we encourage you to find out more about our services and how we can offer support by visiting our website: https://www.in-caring-hands.co.uk/community-social-care/

🔥 Keeping warm this autumn 🔥

🫴 In Caring Hands (ICH) provides care and support for older people living in the St Austell are of Cornwall. Our carers visit service users in their own homes to help with daily tasks, companionship, and wellbeing.

🍂 As the leaves start to turn gold, red and brown and the weather turns colder, many older people don’t keep themselves warm enough. This can be due to mobility issues, worry about heating costs, or simply not wanting to ask for help.

🥶 Low body temperatures can worsen existing health conditions and make daily life uncomfortable. At worst it may even lead to hypothermia, a potentially deadly consequence.

💁‍♀️ Our team of dedicated carers check on temperature and comfort during visits, help with layering clothing, warm meals and hot drinks. They ensure heating and insulation needs are flagged, and offer gentle encouragement to use heating safely and economically, by heating the person, not the room. https://www.cornwall.gov.uk/health-and-social-care/public-health/public-health-campaigns/winter-wellbeing/

👉 Keeping warm is about dignity and safety as much as comfort. If you or a loved one would benefit from regular home visits that prioritise warmth, wellbeing and independence, our carers are here to help. Find out more here: https://in-caring-hands.co.uk

👵 Inclusion for older people at ICH 👴

🫴 In Caring Hands (ICH) provides compassionate, person-centred care for older adults with complex needs, prioritising dignity, sensory safety and meaningful community connections.

❌ Older people are often overlooked because others assume they cannot engage. True inclusion means seeing more than the exterior appearance and getting to know the individual person. We value individual preferences and life history.

👏 Our carers carefully choose the best places to visit with our service users and, when necessary, will brief hosts, request reasonable adjustments, and model inclusive interactions so community venues learn how to welcome everyone.

🪟 We balance safe practice with enabling experiences, developing local partnerships that widen access to parks, events and everyday community life.
