We recently had the honour of conducting the funeral for the late Eileen Collick of Mount Hawke.

During the arrangements, our colleague and parish sexton, Clive Kalber, shared something that truly touched us all.

When he previously laid Eileen’s husband, Richard, to rest, Clive took him on a quiet drive beforehand, around Droskyn and through Blue Hills in his vintage Ford Es**rt.

When he shared this with their daughter, Hannah, at Eileen service, she was deeply moved.

Hannah explained that her mum and dad often took those very same drives together, making such a simple, thoughtful gesture incredibly meaningful.

Following Eileen’s service, her ashes were brought into our care and lovingly placed into a personalised casket, ready to be reunited with her husband at Mount Hawke Cemetery.

Today, Clive once again went out of his way to take Eileen on that same gentle journey, a final drive through places filled with cherished memories.

We are so proud to have Clive as part of Carlyon Funeral Directors.

True care, compassion, and going that extra mile… always ❤️

The recent news regarding a funeral director in Hull has, understandably, affected not only the families involved but also the wider public.

Like many within our profession, I am deeply saddened and appalled that such a situation has occurred.

I want to take a moment to reassure all of the families who place their trust in us that your loved one is always cared for with the utmost dignity, respect, and professionalism.

Following a recent inspection by Cornwall Environmental Health and Business Compliance, we were incredibly proud to receive feedback that there were zero areas requiring improvement across our entire service.

We also operate an open house approach, meaning our door is always open. If you ever feel the need for reassurance, you are warmly welcome to visit us, ask questions, and spend time with your loved one in our care.

Our standards are simple, we care for every loved one as if they were one of our own, with nothing overlooked.

And because we are a family business in the truest sense, there is always a sense of life around us…

Our daughter Rosie may be heard in the background from time to time, and our rescue animals often like to make a gentle appearance. It’s something many families find comforting to know, that their loved one is never alone, always surrounded by care, presence, and quiet companionship….

✨ Another 5⭐ Review✨

Every time a family leaves us a review, it means everything.

In one of life’s hardest moments, families are placing their loved one into our care and having faith in us to get it right.

So when someone takes the time to share their experience, it doesn’t just make us proud, it gives other families reassurance, comfort, and confidence that they’ll be looked after too.

That’s what matters most.

💛 Thank you for trusting us
💛 Thank you for your kind words
💛 And thank you for allowing us to do what we do

Early one Sunday morning, we received a call from a truly wonderful carer looking after an elderly couple.

She was understandably anxious; the gentleman had sadly passed away, and after contacting another funeral director, she had been told they were unable to attend due to the circumstances; his next of kin being very sick and the carer wasn’t aware of his funeral wishes.

With no other family and his dear wife very poorly and mostly asleep, the situation felt incredibly overwhelming for her.

She worried that if one funeral director had declined, others might too.

I gently reassured her that we would take care of everything, no matter how difficult the situation is.

Within 45 minutes, we were there, quietly and respectfully bringing him into our care.

After several phone calls, I was able to trace his solicitor to understand his wishes.

Around this time, his dear wife woke, and I was able to visit her in person.

When I arrived at the park home, space was very limited, she kindly asked if I would mind sitting in her wheelchair next to her bed, which, I must say, was very comfortable.

We spent some precious time together, chatting about their life, how they met as teenagers, married in 1966, and the love he had for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I reassured her that he was resting peacefully with us, just a mile away, and that he was being cared for with the utmost dignity and respect.

To ease her burden, I registered his death today on her behalf.

His wishes for a direct cremation have now been arranged. He will make his final journey with his beloved Wolverhampton shirt resting proudly on his coffin, accompanied by the music of his team as he enters the chapel.

We will take photographs and create a keepsake video for his dear wife, so she can see the care and love shown to George, from the comfort of her hospital bed, when we return him home.

No matter how complex or challenging the circumstances may be, we will always be there, offering support, reassurance, and compassion when families need it most, and doing everything we can to ease any worry ❤️

We recently conducted a funeral service at a new location for us; Parish Church of St Gwinear in Hayle.

What a beautiful setting. The service was truly stunning, and it was such a privilege to lay the gentleman to rest in the Church cemetery alongside his ancestors, surrounded by the peaceful Cornish countryside.

My colleagues were even treated to coffee and biscuits by the verger; after they arrived early and set up in good time, which absolutely made their day!

I’m thankful to have worked alongside such lovely parishioners to bring a wonderful service together.

A heartfelt and fitting farewell in a very special place…..
