Calling all knitters!! 📣
We would love some 6” squares which can be turned into blankets for our palliative care patients at Royal Cornwall Hospital. These blankets are always so appreciated by the patients and their families. If you are able to help, please send us a message. 🧶

We are saddened to report that overnight an individual identified by hospital security visited The Friends Coffee Bar and forcibly opened our chiller cabinet taking items and causing costly damage. We are currently assessing the full extent of the damage and working to ensure the cabinet is secure again. The matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities.

As a charity, we exist to help and support others. It is disheartening to have our equipment damaged and items taken and not paid for. The Friends Coffee Bar is run by volunteers with 100% of all proceeds going directly to benefiting the patients and staff of Royal Cornwall Hospital.

Beatrice Dyer, Chair of the Friends of the Royal Cornwall Hospital for nearly 20 years, shared her experience working with Attend. While being very well networked in her local community, Beatrice and the other volunteers of Friends of the Royal Cornwall were met with an important challenge when they were told they would be consumed under RCHT Volunteers, which would have meant losing their identity but would have also opened up a lot of issues with the organisation. At this moment, Attend was able to support them, to suggest a face-to-face meeting with the hospital representative but also to prepare for it and see what was possible. One year later, they say they are much more confident dealing with this issue.

When asked about the help provided, Beatrice responds « I am so grateful for the tailored and personal support Attend gave. We feel so much better in dealing with new processes and working through these with the NHS management team. » She adds, « The bit that I was a little concerned about was how to keep being accountable for the situation whilst asking another organisation for help. I needn’t have worried though, Attend came along and created a shared journey with a strong sense of mutual trust and personal relationships.

When asked if she would recommend Attend to other groups, she laughs and says « I am a bit reticent to, as I would like to keep Attend here in Cornwall! But seriously, their help was invaluable. It has helped us to continue to enjoy our volunteering and look forward to all the wonderful ways we can help the patients and staff of the Royal Cornwall Hospital in years to come.”
