I’m quite rubbish at updating this page…. However, lots of people have come looking at it recently so here’s a little update!

One thing I’m very pleased to share is my new therapy space - especially good for young people and their families.

I’ll update my new therapeutic offerings, but here are some pictures to be going along with.

Talking about Mental Health can be hard.

Music Therapy offers non-verbal ways to support, process and manage your Mental Health. You don't need to know how to play an instrument. Engaging and interacting in music with others can help you start to communicate when you need to most.

Hello new followers!

I’m afraid I’m a bit rubbish at updating my page, but I’m very much alive and working in schools with children who have experienced trauma, are adopted or who have a range of other challenges.

In the run up to Christmas though a lot work is around body autonomy, safe touch and relationships. You can learn this from very early in life and we all need to remember to respect a child’s right to choose.

When my kids see extended family, this is what happens. If my relatives think I have rude kids based on this decision, I'm okay with that.

Happy New Year everyone.

It's very easy to fall into thinking too hard about the future and making grand gestures during this time of the year.

I'd like to advocate taking some time to relax in this moment. Take a deep breath, release your shoulders and think of something that makes you smile.

Then stick a tune on that gets you moving.

I hope you all have a lovely evening.

A really interesting read on a subject you hear explained away as ‘girls being girls’.

I hear teachers in the schools I work with struggling to get to grips with this a lot so I’m looking forward to sharing this with them today.

How to stop relational aggression is one of the biggest challenges facing schools and parents. What is it? Why does it happen? How can we stop it?

Recently I’ve been trialling the use of puppets with some of the children I work with. It’s been fascinating watching them be integrated into the children’s worlds and the way they’ve helped some of them to express themselves.

I’ve seen them recommended by Play Therapists and Trauma informed School’s practitioners; as well as Attachment specialists like Joy Hasler at Catchpoint and I can really see why.

I haven't posted for a while, this is because of good things though. I've been busy!

I'm currently working with three Primary schools supporting children in care, that have experienced Trauma or just seem to simply need some more help with getting through their lives. It's challenging, but very rewarding.

However, I've got some time to fill up and so am offering piano and violin lessons during the day on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I finished some long term work today in a mainstream primary school, it was my first piece of commissioned work and I was incredibly lucky to get it via a friend.

Today it was incredibly moving, to reflect on how far the children have come in 2 1/2 years 3 terms or 5, they’ve all been on a big journey.

It’s been a pleasure supporting the staff to help their children succeed as well as helping the children themselves.

Sad doesn’t quite cover it at the moment, but I’m looking forward to some new challenges and working closer to home.

I now have a day free from September if you are interested. Send me a message to find out the difference Music Therapy can make.

Improving lives one note at a time

Music is the tool I use to help children and young people express themselves without the need for words or language of any kind. This free’s them up to express the unknowable and come to terms with what ever is troubling them.

I greet them with unconditional positive regard, accepting their truth as they see it. Then through the therapeutic process we use musical improvisation and song writing to help them learn acceptance, understanding and how to have better relationships with other people and the world at large.

There is no age limit to experiencing music as a tool for change, equally it requires you to have no special interest or skill.

Everyone has music in them, from the smallest baby to the person nearing the end of their life. It connects us and binds us together. No matter what your challenges are, physical or mental, music can help you.
