Truro BID

Truro BID Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.

Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local authorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:

∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).

∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.

∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.

∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.

∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.

∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.

∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

Shop Watch meetings provide businesses with a chance to share city centre crime related topics, local knowledge and issues with other businesses, the police and Truro BID.

It would be great to have lots of businesses and organisations joining in so just turn up to the Shop Watch meeting, tomorrow, Tuesday 3 March.

As communicated last week, we are looking for around a dozen Truro businesses that would be willing to share their weekly footfall or transactions and sales percentage gain / loss per week versus last year with Truro BID.

This is so we can collate an anonymous weekly local picture of our footfall / sales position.

Truro businesses, if you would be prepared to support with this (we could try it for 12 weeks), email Alun Jones at: alun.jones@trurobid.co.uk.

If we receive enough response, we will send out a format for businesses to complete. Thank you in advance.

Truro City Council is inviting residents, community groups, and local organisations to attend its Annual Town Meeting, taking place on Thursday 19 March at 7pm in the Council Chamber, Municipal Buildings, Boscawen Street, Truro.

The Annual Town Meeting provides an important opportunity for members of the public to meet their City Councillors, learn more about the work of Truro City Council, and engage directly with local representatives on matters affecting the city.

Truro City Councillors will be attending, and representatives from community groups across Truro are expected to join the meeting. The event offers residents the opportunity to hear updates on current projects and initiatives, and to gain insight into the Council’s priorities for the years ahead.

Copies of the Truro City Council Strategy 2026–2030 will be available at the meeting. The strategy sets out the Council’s key objectives and outlines its vision and priorities for the city over the next five years.

Residents are encouraged to take part and may submit questions in advance of the meeting by emailing info@truro.gov.uk. Questions submitted ahead of time will help ensure that Councillors can provide detailed and informed responses. Therefore, any questions should be submitted by close of play on Friday 13 March 2026.

The Annual Town Meeting is open to all members of the public, and Truro City Council are welcoming everyone with an interest in the city’s future to attend. For further information, please contact Truro City Council at info@truro.gov.uk.

Truro BID, in conjunction with Newham BID, are hosting the ninth City Clean Up on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 March this year.

The aim of City Clean Up is to encourage as many businesses and organisations as possible to volunteer an hour or whatever time they can spare to get involved in helping to clean and tidy our great little city.

Local Community Volunteer Paul Caruana is organising litter picks to take place in Truro's surrounding neighbourhoods as part of City Clean Up. Damien Richards, Community Development Officer, from Truro City Council will also be inviting Truro community groups to take part.

Truro Businesses, if you or your colleagues are interested in being part of City Clean Up within the City Centre on Friday 13 March, please email emily.warrington@trurobid.co.uk ASAP and by Friday 28 February. It would be to do sign washing, cable tie cutting or litter picking for an hour.

The BIG Truro Market is back in Truro next month on Lemon Quay on the second Saturday of every month (March – November) from 9am to 4pm.

Expect around 60 stalls featuring a curated mix of indie makers, bakers, and producers. From contemporary craft and sustainable lifestyle wares to vintage finds and artisan food, the market showcase the local creators and curators.

More than just a market, visitors can enjoy live music, creative workshops, and streetfood.

The BIG Truro Market is a collaboration between CornwallShop Small and Truro Farmers Market. We'll be continuing to support Cornwall Shop Small (by making a small contribution to their operation costs) as markets encourage additional footfall into Truro. The BIG Truro Market is also supported by Truro City Council and Visit Truro.
