Truro BID

Truro BID Information on Truro BID's activities & businesses matters for those working in Truro City Centre. We first became operational in October 2007.

Truro Business Improvement District (BID) is a business led initiative which gives businesses the power to raise funds locally to be spent locally on improving a defined commercial area. Truro BID represents circa 380 Truro businesses and from 2007 to 2017 invested £3.4million into the City centre. We’re now in our fourth 5 year term, which runs until October 2027. We are independent from local au

thorities and other statutory agencies and deliver projects over and above the baseline service provided by them. Some of our work includes:

∙ Delivering and funding Truro’s annual City Centre Christmas Lights scheme (along with past donations from Lionel and Carol Knight).

∙ Enhancing the festive offer with street entertainment, large scale projections on buildings, traffic-free main shopping streets, markets, and supporting Coppice Theatre shows and Father Christmas grottos.

∙ Delivering the Truro Trend high-profile Catwalk at the Cathedral.

∙ Initiating and supporting one day markets; e.g. the Duchy Fair’s Cornwall Shop Small Markets and Truro Antiques and Collectables Markets.

∙ Joint-funding with Truro City Council the annual floral hanging baskets each spring.

∙ Working with Visit Truro to promote the city, including contributing financially to printed marketing activity (Truro Guides) and Visit Truro’s website.

∙ Representing the interests of businesses on plans for the Pydar Regeneration and Truro Town Fund investment plan.

As previously communicatedc, relevant Truro Businesses are encouraged to join in with Children's Day and there are a couple of ways to take part:

A reminder that Truro City Council's self-led Easter Trail takes place throughout the Easter holidays across two locations this year until to Sunday 19 April 2026.

The Victoria Gardens Easter Trail features hidden bunnies, while the Boscawen Park Easter Trail will use hidden signs with letters to spell out a special Easter phrase.

To take part, participants can collect a clue and entry sheet from one of the following locations:
• Café in the Park (Boscawen Park Easter Trail)
• Pollen (Victoria Gardens Easter Trail)
• Truro Community Library (Pydar Street)
• Truro Visitor Information Centre (Boscawen Street)
Then, simply follow the clues around the park or gardens, find the hidden signs and record the letters on the entry sheet. Once completed, return your sheet to one of the collection points to receive a prize and be entered into the grand prize draw.

All entries must be submitted by Sunday 19 April. The activity is free to take part in and can be completed at any time during the opening hours of Pollen/Café in the Park.

Cornwall Council have re-introduced of free parking after 4pm at two of Truro’s car parks - Edward Street, near Truro Crown Court and Moresk (Oakway), next to the Pydar development area, from today, Friday 10th April.

The two car parks that are now free to park from 4pm daily are located at Edward Street (TR1 3AJ), which has 134 spaces, and Moresk, Oakway (TR1 1DW), which has 115 spaces.

The news is welcomed by Truro BID, along with several Councillors at Truro City Council and the Town Clerk, all of whom have been campaigning for the return of free parking to support the late afternoon and evening economy.

In April 2023, Cornwall Council introduced charges after 4pm in Truro, causing a loss of free evening parking for the city.

Truro BID and Truro City Council have been meeting with Cornwall Council since November 2024 to raise concerns about parking capacity and cost. Truro BID also obtained support from over 125 businesses, via letters and emails, to request that free evening parking was reinstated.

Truro City and Cornwall Councillors, Rob Nolan and Steven Webb, have been instrumental to reinstate free parking in Truro, and were onsite at the two car parks from 4pm on Friday 10th April to speak with residents and raise awareness of the changes.

Alun Jones, Truro BID Manager, said: “Truro BID, on behalf of the City Centre Businesses, would like to thank Cornwall Council for acknowledging our ongoing concerns regarding parking capacity and cost. We’re optimistic that partial free parking after 4pm will boost the later afternoon retail and professional services customer visits and support the hospitality sector during the evenings.
Reinstating two of Truro’s carparks with free parking after 4pm is a positive start. We look forward to continuing working together, alongside Truro City Council, to find further improvements to Truro’s parking capacity and cost.”

David Rodda, Town Clerk at Truro City Council, added: “Truro City Council welcomes this news as 41% of respondents to our recent resident survey indicated that they would like to see easier and cheaper parking in Truro. 22% also identified that attracting visitors and encouraging high street vitality was a key priority and therefore we are pleased that Cornwall Council have listened to our concerns. We hope that this change will demonstrate how free parking can help to facilitate increased footfall on the high street, whilst also reducing the pressure of visitor parking in our residential areas”.

Please note, this change applies only to Edward Street and Moresk, and there will continue to be a charge for all the other Cornwall Council car parks in Truro.

𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗿𝗼 𝗥𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘁 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹𝘀

We will be continuing to fund the Truro Rangers security resource for five days a week this financial year (2026/27).

We introduced the Truro Rangers, who patrol for 46 hours a week and are a highly visible deterrent against low level crime and violence against shop workers, in April 2023. We've been funding the Truro Rangers, using the Truro BID Levy since then.

In addition to these Truro BID funded hours, 'Hot Spot Patrols' undertaken by our Truro Rangers have been taking place as part of a Government funded initiative since Autumn 2024.

We are pleased to say that 14 hours a week of Truro Rangers Hot Spot Patrols, taking place in the evenings and on alternate Saturdays, will continue for the next six months as we've been awarded Police and Crime Commissioner Funding.
To achieve the funding we were able to show evidence of the success of the Hot Spot Patrol scheme.

The BIG Truro Market will return this Saturday 11 April and then on the second Saturday of the month until October this year, with local crafts, lifestyle wares and produce.

Taking place on Lemon Quay from 9am to 4pm, the market will have around 60 stalls featuring a curated mix of indie makers, bakers, and producers from Cornwall Shop Small and Truro Farmers Market traders.

Visitors can also enjoy live music, creative workshops, and streetfood.

We'll be continuing to support Cornwall Shop Small by making a small contribution to their operating costs, as markets generate additional customer footfall into the city that will potentially benefit many other resident businesses, including hospitality.

The BIG Truro Market is also supported by Truro City Council and Visit Truro .

15 months ago, Truro’s New Life for City Buildings (NLCB) project awarded its first grant to support a local company seeking to bring an empty three storey building in the centre of Truro back into use.

Since then, 9 other schemes have received NLCB grants, helping to deliver 22 new homes to enable more people to live in the centre of the city and supporting the regeneration and repurposing of disused buildings.

The New Life for City Buildings project, led by Truro City Council, was awarded £3.3 million of Town Deal funding to boost the local economy by supporting the refurbishment, renovation and repurposing of buildings and unoccupied upper floors. Almost £1.3 million was allocated to support schemes bringing empty spaces above retail shops back into residential or commercial use, with the remaining £2m ring fenced for buying and regenerating unused buildings.

Truro Regeneration Company CIC (Regenco), the organisation set up by Truro City Council to deliver the project, awarded the final grant at the end of last year. As well as providing much-needed additional homes, the project has also unlocked over £1.8 million of private sector investment in the city.

Four of the 10 schemes have been completed, with work progressing well on the remaining six. All are expected to be finished by the end of 2026. Together the 22 new homes will provide accommodation for more than 50 people in the city centre, with two of the schemes working in partnership with housing associations to provide homes for individuals and families in need.
