We've been at Doubletrees School this week, looking at sleep, bedtime routines and the impact of sugar on our bodies and our sleep.

The students used symbols, supported by Makaton, to explore healthy habits, and how sleep (or lack of) can make us feel. Thank you for having us!

It was a real pleasure for us to facilitate Session One of Jamie's Ministry of Food UK /Healthy Cornwall Adult-Child Cooking Course at St Stephens Community Academy this week.

These sessions are built around fun, creativity, food exploration and ‘having a go’ in order to build confidence, develop essential cooking skills and trying new alternatives to their usual diets.
The children did themselves proud with such a mature attitude in the school kitchen and their willingness to try new foods. To kick start the block, we learned how to use the correct heat setting on the hobs, and to crack and scramble eggs ‘The Jamie Way’. We learned about different types and colours of eggs, the importance of wholegrains and wholemeal bread rather than white and made our One Cup Pancakes using the white shelled egg variety. The Greek yoghurt and the different coloured eggs were not only a ‘first’ for a number of children, but a big hit, and something they would like to eat again at home. This little group of budding chefs have been given to the task to practice one or both of this week’s recipes over the next week and to feedback on how it all went, taking some photos to share if they would like to. If they are feeling especially adventurous, they also have the recipe for Poached Eggs to have some fun with.

Thank you for a wonderful first session everyone. We look forward to more culinary fun next week!

🌟 A great morning at Callywith College! 🌟
We had a brilliant start to the day working with the A‑Level Health & Social Care students, exploring the risks of smoking and va**ng in adolescence. Together we looked at the health, social and environmental impacts, and the students engaged brilliantly with the discussion.

Later, we ran our monthly drop‑in session, this time in collaboration with our colleagues from Bosvena Diabetes. Their focus was on the sugar content in popular drinks — and the reactions were priceless! Many young people were shocked to learn that a single can of Monster contains 14 teaspoons of sugar (yes 14!), while the recommended daily maximum for adults is just 7 teaspoons.

We had a fantastic time at Parkview in Helston earlier this week delivering our interactive session on Dental and Hand Hygiene.

To help everyone understand how germs work, we used pepper in water to act as “germs.” When you dip your finger in, the “germs” stick, but as soon as you add soap, the pepper rushes away. A great visual reminder of just how important proper handwashing is!

We also brought along our special germ‑detecting machine, which shows what’s really on our hands before and after washing. It’s always eye‑opening and a brilliant way to show just how effective good hand hygiene can be.

Thank you to everyone at Parkview for joining in, we loved spending the day with you.

🔎 We had such a fantastic time with everyone that came along to the Early Birds Museum Explorers Club this week at Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery.

🦀🍌 The club was completely full and it was amazing to see the children having such fun exploring the Under the Sea theme using crafts and eating healthy snacks including satsuma crabs, diving dolphins and seashell pasta salad.

🙌 We're already looking forward to our next session at Easter.

❤ Our trainers Darren and Becky and CHAMPs Ben and Thom had a wonderful time co-delivering Oliver McGowan Tier 2 Training to Wadebridge Dental Care Ltd recently.

🗣️👂 It was great to see the team feeling so inspired, but also to hear about the brilliant work they're doing to support their patients with learning disabilities and/or autism.

📲 The aim of the training is to raise awareness of learning disabilities and autism. Interested in attending a future course or setting one up for your business or organisation? Find out more 👉 https://bit.ly/HCOliverMcGowan25

🥞❤ What a fantastic time yesterday at our Family Pancake Workshop at the Kinsman Community Hub, delivered in collaboration with the Bodmin Way Health and Wellbeing Workers.

🍌🫐 It was great seeing local families getting stuck in, practising their pancake‑making skills, and enjoying tasting their creations together with healthy toppings like natural yogurt, banana and blueberries.

🎉 We’ve now come to the end of our 5‑week cooking course at Mabe Primary School, and it’s been a pleasure supporting students and their families as they built their skills and confidence in the kitchen.
🍳 Over the weeks, they learned how to prepare and cook a range of homemade meals, including tomato pasta, fajitas, poached eggs, and one‑pan pizzas.

A big thank you to Mr Watkins for joining us as our taste‑tester!
