If you’ve practiced yin yoga I imagine you’ve heard the phrase “listen to your body” or some variation on that. But have you ever thought about what it means to listen to your body?

Here are three ways to listen to your body

* Notice sensations: Pay attention to how your body feels in each shape. Notice which sensations are good and which are not. Are there any sharp pains?
Are there dull aches? Tingling? become aware of what sensation is pleasant and what is not

* Understand your limits: Resist the urge to push into a deeper stretch than feels comfortable. You should feel a sensation, but it should not become pain. Unlike other yoga styles Yin yoga encourages an introspective approach that focuses on experience rather than achievement

* Awareness of breath: Use your breath to help relax and sink into your shapes, sure- but breath can also be an indication that you have gone beyond your edge or you have pushed past your limit

Do you feel calmer and more able to relax after you have exerted yourself? There is a misleading idea that in order to relax you have to be still and quiet - moving your body, and even breaking a sweat can help you relax too!

We like it high potency and goal focused around here

By prioritising everything, we end up prioritising nothing.

Each power flow block has a concentrated focus so that we have an opportunity to rekindle a deep, meaningful connection with some part of ourselves.

Our next POWER FLOW movement focus is inversions and arm balances.

The goals for this upcoming block are: deep core activation, shoulder stability, wrist strength and to establish a sense of security with our feet off the ground.

Hello.

I am a Yoga teacher offering classes that are accessible and inclusive with opportunities to play and challenge. My approach to teaching focuses on tuning into the body, building strength and maintaining flexibility for functional movements. Classes are interlaced with storytelling and themes of self empowerment through challenge.

I completed my RYT 200hrs Vinyasa Yoga teacher training in Fernie, BC with Francesca Ter Pooreten and 30hrs Yin Yoga teacher training with Eimear Beardmore. I teach weekly classes in Truro and Falmouth as well as offer private 1-2-1 or small group sessions around Cornwall.

What is Yin Yang Yoga? Yin and Yang tissues respond differently to being exercised. The Yin part of the class is yoga for the less elastic connective tissue, ligaments and bones- we'll use static, elongating stress applied for longer periods of time. The Yang part is moving and strengthening the muscle against resistance. Yin postures are generally seated postures which are held for 3-5 minutes (sometimes longer) applying constant gentle stress to the deep connective tissues while softening and releasing tension in the muscles. As we age our natural range of motion lessens due to the decrease in all the forms of moisture in the body. Yin yoga helps to prevent joint rigidity and immobility by rehydrating fascia and tissues. The Yang, explores the more active style of practice. Targeting the muscles that we engage to hold the bones closer together protecting the joints. Postures will be held for a slightly longer time (not as long as Yin postures) as we learn to connect to the breath and align the body.

A Yin Yang Yoga practice facilitates a deeper connection to the self- body and mind- as well as awareness of the breath.
