Quietening your inner critic can help your physical and mental health -

As an integrative therapist, I draw from a variety of strategies to work with client’s individual needs. Here are some of the approaches I take to help quieten that critical voice inside all of us.

The ACT Approach: Identify, label, and observe our inner critic without judgement. Acknowledge and name it, creating distance from negative thoughts. Gain perspective by realising not all thoughts are facts.

Positive Intelligence: Outsmart our inner judge. Discredit judgments, anchor in the present with sensory exercises, and reconnect with your rational brain. Try grounding techniques using your five senses.

CBT Reasoning: Explore the logical side with CBT. Identify cognitive distortions and challenge negative thoughts using activities like the Theory A-B exercise. Work with a therapist to uncover irrational interpretations and biases.

Self-Compassion and Meditation: Practice self-compassion as you would with a friend. Imagine speaking to a loved one during struggles. Embrace mindfulness and meditation to silence mind-chatter, calm your nervous system, and gain perspective.

Happy Easter everyone

Let's not focus on the amount of chocolate we have consumed and how we haven't been as sociable / productive as we think we should have been.
Instead let's look for the wins, no matter how small.

This quote is hanging in the corridor of my therapist's building and having just had a particularly tough session, the words really resonated with me; as a client and also as a therapist.

I really believe that allowing yourself to feel the painful emotions, does help you to make sense of your experiences, and ultimately move forwards with life. I see this in my own counselling journey and in those of my clients.

What do you think?

Sometimes when we are feeling at our lowest, we don’t always think clearly. Making a
list of positives when we are feeling okay and keeping it somewhere safe can be a helpful way to remind us how to feel better when we are stuck.

Life can be tough, and it’s okay to need support. Here are some reasons why talking to a counsellor can be helpful:
1️⃣ Emotional Wellness: Counsellors provide a safe space to express your feelings and work through challenges.
2️⃣ New Perspectives: They offer fresh insights and strategies for coping with life’s ups and downs.
3️⃣ Improved Relationships: Counselling can help you communicate better and build healthier connections.

New Year, New Wellbeing Goals

As we step into 2025, it's a great opportunity to set intentions to prioritise your mental and emotional wellbeing for the year.

Can you spot a trend in my goals I shared for 2025? I'm focusing on my tendency to pack in too much and I'm trying to appreciate the important things in life and not waste energy on areas of my life that are out of my control.

What about you? Are there any intentions you'd like to set this new year? If you're struggling to think of any, here's a few examples for wellbeing inspiration -

🟢 Start: Begin a mindfulness practice, journaling daily, or setting aside time for self-care rituals.

🔴 Stop: Let go of negative self-talk, unhealthy habits, and anything that drains your energy.

📚 Learn: Explore new coping strategies, emotional intelligence, or how to set healthy boundaries.

🌍 Visit: Take time to connect with nature, visit loved ones, or explore new places that bring you peace and joy.

🎁 Give: Offer kindness to others, volunteer, or give yourself grace and compassion.

🔄 Change: Shift your mindset to one of positivity, and let go of perfectionism. Focus on progress, not perfection.

Let’s make 2025 a year of discovery, healing and growth! Share your wellbeing goals, below to help inspire each other!
