Yesterday The Times said ‘Millions will be offered help to come off anti-depressants and pain-killers under NHS drive to tackle addiction.’ In the UK 8 million are on anti-depressants, half of which get withdrawal effects when they try to stop, half of which describe them as ’severe’. Consequently they become ‘addicted'.
In my podcast at 4pm today, I interview John Read, Professor of Clinical Psychology at the University of East London, who is the researcher who exposed this sorry state of affairs. The alternative is ‘art classes, music and gardening classes’ says The Times, but this ignores the fact that the brain’s chemistry is scrambled by these drugs, and sitting around in groups isn’t going to unscramble people’s brains.
My other guest is Dr Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist with the most experience getting people off anti-depressants using an optimum nutrition approach. Do listen in at 4pm (https://patrickholford.podbean.com/). There are, of course, clues as to how to reverse depression in the first place. Potentially addictive drugs is not the way to go.
