Why do schools persist in using fear as a motivator? It simply does not work, and, as the following story highlights, simply creates an atmosphere of anxiety and distress rather than safety and enjoyment. I cannot understand it and cannot condone it.

Have you heard of Barrington Stokes books? They are excellent for helping children reignite or discover a love of reading by providing books that are matched to reading age and interest age. If you have a child or adolescent that is struggling to gain fluency in their reading and have become a reluctant reader, then check out the books available by Barrington Stoke. All you need is your child's approximate 'reading age' and then you can search books that will be accessible for them to read but will interest them also.
