Phew thank goodness that is January well and truly out of the way!

At this time of year do you find you are bombarded with advice, workbooks, challenges, podcasts, courses, masterclasses in anything and everything to make 2026 the best year yet?!

Well, it is partly my fault as I sign up to so many things thinking one of them is going to make all the difference, sound familiar? But this year, there was one thing that stood out!

I listened to the Podcast episode: '๐—›๐—ผ๐˜„ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—บ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ฒ ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฌ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฒ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐—•๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜ ๐—ฌ๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ: ๐Ÿฒ ๐—ค๐˜‚๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป๐˜€ ๐˜๐—ผ ๐—”๐˜€๐—ธ ๐—ฌ๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐˜€๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ณ', along with downloading the workbook. I listened, followed the steps and answered the questions alongside listening to the episode....

At first I thought it was more of the same (sorry Mel!), but as I worked through it I was truly stunned by the key tool Mel advised us to use, which has been right under nose the whole time - my camera roll!

During the process we used the pictures in our camera roll to reflect on experiences of the last year - The highs and the lows! We were able to use them to find patterns, see what was really going on for us, where we placed the focus and attention, and most importantly... what was missing.

I had never thought to look at my pictures as way to assess what was going well and what was missing, but it really brought it home to me.

The majority of my pictures were of work related things, locations, technicals, venues... there were some of friends, family, special trips too of course, but the over-riding view from my gallery was WORK and SERIOUSNESS!

It was disappointing to see, but also really made it stand out to me that the moments with people we love, having fun, sillyness, experiences, were what have been missing for me. So this exercise has made me bring into focus what I need to create for myself this year.

I encourage EVERYONE to listen to Mel's podcast (it came out in December) and/or look at your cameral roll and just notice what the themes are, where the focus is, what feels good, what you are missing??

This is my favourite Jumper (or Sweater for our American friends!)

Today is 'Sweater Day' so I am showing it off and remembering that layering up and adding another jumper, instead of turning up the temperature is the greener option this time of year.

However not only does it save energy and emissions, and reduces our carbon footprint, but it is also more beneficial for our bodies to.

Allowing our bodies to feel some healthy 'coldness' enourages them to boost circulation and pump more blood to working muscles, delivering essential oxygen and nutrients, plus it speeds up metabolism to make energy production in the body more efficient.

So overall it is a win win for the planet and our health!

I have been working as a Sustainability Advisor in the film industry for the last couple of years. After a very long time in film production (which I still love and am involved in), I have taken a step into something I really care about and I hope to bring a little more balance to create a sustainable life, in conjunction with the wellbeing work I do too... Sustainability is as important for the environment as it is for our health and lifestyles.

I realise I don't share that much about this side of my work and I have learnt a lot over the last couple of years as really Sustainability touches every part of our lives. From the products we use, what we eat, how we travel, what we choose to wear and the hobbies we do. Everything has an impact on the planet and on our health and there are options in every case.

We can always make a different choice if we know what the options are, have the time to research and sometimes the funds to invest. Although, one thing I have learnt is that money isn't always the thing that pushes the needle. Just a thought to consider the options is a step in the right direction is enough.

Still doing nothingโ€ฆ

Well thatโ€™s not entirely true but my body has told me to stop! Iโ€™ve been poorly over Christmas and new year and it hasnโ€™t let up! Just because the world has gone back to work / school and we decided January is a fresh start, clean slate and a time for renewed energy and productivity, it doesnโ€™t mean that is what we are actually feeling.

When we look to nature all around us we can see it is still in hibernation, it has slowed down, growth has momentarily halted, itโ€™s hunkering down in self-protection and to go inwards.

As humans reflect nature, so to are our bodies at this time of year, so the fact mine is still fighting off bugs and viruses and telling me to slow down and rest, itโ€™s leaning into the seasons rather than the manufactured requirement of a new year and to get productive because a date says so!

I have been back to the office yesterday and then listened to how Iโ€™m feeling and dialled it down again. Luckily I can work from home and take breaks inbetween โ€ฆ but rather than packing the diary full and making the plans, goals, list of โ€˜to dosโ€™ because its a new yearโ€ฆ instead please slow down, listen to your body, notice nature and what you actually need.

Keep remembering, when you canโ€ฆ to do nothing, if thatโ€™s what your body needs! ๐Ÿƒ ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ โ„๏ธ โœ‹

We can often rush into making fast changes, desperate for this new year to be different. But we can go in so fast, unprepared, full of hope rather than reality and the new changes we are hoping to make, do not stick.

So this new year, stop, do nothing and wait.

Instead- Get prepared, think it through, make a plan and then start.

Iโ€™m going to be sharing how you can do this and get support along the wayโ€ฆ so give yourself a break this new year, ease into January and get prepared to make changes once the year has started.

More to followโ€ฆ in the meantime please rest up, take it easy and do nothing.

Happy Winter Solstice!

Today we reach the shortest day and longest night of the year. When we can appreciate the light and the dark and begin notice the little shards of light making their way through the darkness to show us new hope and new beginnings.

On world kindness day how can you show a little love and kindness?

Kindness comes for free whether we are showing it to ourselves, someone else or our environment around us.

Nature has the greatest kindness, it constantly wants to live, share, surviveโ€ฆ and being in nature is one of the greatest kindnesses we can give ourselves to just slow down, listen, rest and regenerate.

The theme for 2025 is 'Hand in Hand for Better Foods and a Better Future' - which gives us a chance to consider access to and availability of food, and to not take this for granted. So please think carefully about the food you purchase, reuse as leftovers and ultimately waste.

This is timely as I have had a realisation! I have not been wasting food at all, I have been over eating it. Do you find when you are in a place of uncertainty or change that you turn to something else for comfort? Well for me, one of those things has been food. I have been exhausted so food provides the energy, but it also is a treat and something to look forward to in your day to break things up, plus it is also a way to numb uncomfortable feelings.

In addition, when we have a feeling of not being grounded and without routine, we all know this is a receipe to eat for convenience. However routine and preparation plays such an important role in eating a healthy and balanced diet and incorporating exercise into your daily routine.

Most of this year, this has gone out of the window for me and has lead to being more sedentary, not getting exercise by the outdoor activities I love and also eating the wrong things and too much of them!

This is a great wake up call, along with studying a health and nutrition course that has enabled me to reflect a lot basic facts, of energy (calories) consumed versus energy burned and run the numbers that tells me I am very much sitting in the overweight category.

I have always refused to weigh myself my whole life, but I am now looking at myself as a project and utilising all of the tools around me (not just calorie counting). But looking at BMI, height/waist measurement, weight, energy balancing, routine, activty and exercise, supplements, knowledge of foods, healthy eating and nutritional value.

Time to make changes all round - let's not waste food inside or outside of our bodies!
