Common warning signs include:

Spring Health Tips in Chinese Medicine

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), spring corresponds to the Liver element.
It is a season when Yang energy begins to rise and expand.

☀ Sunburn in Summer (晒傷) & TCM Care

Sunburn occurs when skin is overexposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays, often during prolonged outdoor activities in summer. Symptoms include redness, pain, swelling, and sometimes blistering. In severe cases, fever, chills, and dehydration may follow.

While avoiding sun exposure entirely is unrealistic in summer, especially during outdoor leisure or work, people should limit direct sun between 10 AM and 4 PM, use protective clothing, hats, and sunscreen, and reapply protection every 2 hours when outdoors.

If untreated, sunburn may lead to long-term skin damage, premature aging, or even increased risk of skin cancer.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), sunburn is seen as excessive “heat” invading the skin, damaging Qi and fluids. Our new herbal paste, made from cooling and skin-repairing herbs, can be applied directly to relieve pain, reduce redness, and promote regeneration.

Clinical Example: A patient returned from a beach trip with severe shoulder sunburn, experiencing pain and difficulty sleeping. After applying herbal paste twice daily, redness subsided in 3 days and peeling was minimal.

Cold Foods & Digestive Trouble: A Chinese Medicine Perspective

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Spleen and Stomach are key to digestion. They prefer warmth to function properly. Cold foods and drinks—especially in early summer—can damage the Spleen’s ability to transform and transport nutrients, leading to symptoms like bloating, loose stools, fatigue after meals, and a heavy sensation in the body.

Many people crave iced drinks or cold salads in warmer weather, and occasional intake is understandable. However, when consumed excessively or over a long period, cold foods weaken digestion and dampen the body’s internal warmth. Over time, this can cause chronic fatigue, weakened immunity, or even fluid retention and digestive disorders.

To prevent this, it’s best to enjoy cold items in moderation—e.g. one small iced drink a day, not on an empty stomach, and balanced with warming foods like ginger or soups.

TCM can help restore digestive strength. Moxibustion applied to the abdomen or Spleen meridian warms the digestive system, improves circulation, and relieves bloating. Herbal formulas can further support and tonify the Spleen.

A typical case: A young woman who regularly drank iced milk tea experienced constant bloating and post-meal tiredness. After three sessions of moxibustion and mild herbal tonics, her digestion became noticeably more comfortable.
