Last night, as a token gesture to Halloween, I rewatched Zombieland. While horror films aren't really my thing, I do enjoy the ocasional zom-com.
Columbus has a list of rules for surviving the apocalypse... No1 is "Cardio" because you need to be able to outrun the undead, obviously - as an athlete I agree that running (or exercise of some sort) should always be top priority! Way down at No18 is "limber-up" in preparation for running away from the flesh-eating hoards - personally, I think he'd be better off keeping up regular yoga practice, which would be much more beneficial (and move it up the list!).
Tallahassee (played superbly by Woody Harleson) has his own surprisingly wise philosophies for coping with the harsh challenges they face. "Enjoy the little things" - you don't always need to strive for anything grand or perfect, just take time to appreciate the joy in everyday simple things and you'll find some happiness. "Time to nut up or shut up" - a ridiculous rhyme but sometimes you simply need to stop procrastinating, worrying or moaning about a task and just get on with doing it, you'll feel a whole lot better once it's out of the way.
Never judge a film by its poster! This is more than just a fun film about double-tapping zombies for laughs, there are lessons for coping with tough times hidden amongst the amusing bloody mayhem. Plus the great Bill Murray makes a cameo appearance, which is definitely a Halloween treat worth watching for...
