🏃♀️Back to running
I used to LOVE to run but had mostly given up on it due to struggling with arthritis in my lower back for the last 5 years or so.
As with most climbers I know, cardio is not a thing we do much of… especially boulderers… but as a Personal Trainer, I really notice how much I lack in the cardio fitness / endurance area.
So, today I went for my first “run” in ages. In truth, it was at a sloth-like speed of run/walk BUT it was a step in the right direction. I spent time thinking about correct running technique and how to best support my joints as I ran - mostly to avoid hurting too much. Lots of stretching at the end too, of course.
AND it felt GREAT!
So, I’m going to take it slowly-slowly and hopefully keep that ball rolling, improve my endurance, and learn to love running again.
The pic was my finish spot, on a bridge over the river that feeds into Toticus Reservoir in my hometown of North Salem. Such a beautiful place to grow up - it’s been so nice to visit and enjoy this long holiday of catching up with friends and family, exploring old haunts and places new and having time to relax and revisit old pursuits.
