As one of our dental hygienists, she is known for her gentle technique and her dedication to preventive care. We recently sat down with Lucy, to learn a little more about her, both in and out of the practice!

1️⃣ What inspired you to become a dental hygienist?

I knew I loved working in dentistry from starting as a dental nurse after leaving school. Becoming a hygienist felt like the perfect next step to make an even bigger difference to patients’ health, understanding, and confidence.

2️⃣ What’s your favourite part of your job at Tunbridge Wells Dental Centre?

I love the supportive team at TWDC, they are always uplifting. Getting to know patients personally and earning trust is a real privilege.

3️⃣ What’s one top tip you’d give for keeping gums healthy at home?

Prioritise cleaning between your teeth every day with floss or interdental brushes. It’s far more effective than special mouthwashes for removing plaque and keeping gums healthy.

4️⃣ If you weren’t a hygienist, what would your dream job be?

I’d love to be a digital nomad. Travelling the world while working from anywhere would be pretty cool.

5️⃣ What’s one fun fact about you that most patients wouldn’t know?

I lived and worked in the Aussie outback, rearing calf’s and cooking for 70+ guests every night!

We hope you’re enjoying a wonderful day filled with family, fun… and maybe a little chocolate too!

Easter treats are part of the celebration, but here are a few simple ways to enjoy them while being kind to your teeth:

Keep chocolate to mealtimes
Eating chocolate after a meal is better than grazing throughout the day. Saliva production increases at mealtimes, helping to neutralise acids and wash away sugars.

Avoid constant snacking
Frequent sugary snacks give bacteria more opportunities to produce acid. Try to enjoy your treats in one sitting rather than little bits all day.

Choose wisely
Plain chocolate is generally better than sticky sweets, caramels, or toffees that cling to teeth for longer.

Wait before brushing
If you’ve had sugary treats, wait at least 30 minutes before brushing to protect your enamel.

Don’t forget to floss!
Chocolate eggs have a sneaky way of getting stuck between teeth.
