This is one of the ways I like to work with hawthorn this time of year 🌿
A simple cup of calmness tea, blended with herbs that support the nervous system and the heart
Hawthorn sits quietly at the centre of it
traditionally used to support circulation, emotional balance, and a sense of grounding
Paired with gentle, calming herbs, it becomes something you can return to daily
a small ritual to slow down, soften, and reset
Nothing complicated
just working with what’s in season 🌸

Hawthorn and fairy magic
Did you know hawthorn has long been associated with the fair folk? 🌿
In European folklore, hawthorn was seen as a sacred tree, often growing at boundaries — along hedgerows, crossroads, and field edges — places believed to sit between worlds
Because of this, it was thought to be connected to the unseen
At this time of year, when hawthorn is in bloom, people would approach it with quiet respect
Traditionally, it was used in a few very specific ways
Branches and blossoms were gathered to decorate homes and May poles during Beltane, bringing protection and blessing
At the same time, there was caution — hawthorn was rarely brought indoors casually, as it was believed to disturb the spirits associated with it
Offerings were sometimes left beneath the tree, especially during seasonal festivals, as a way of honouring the land and maintaining harmony
It wasn’t just a plant…
but something to be worked with carefully
Whether you see it as folklore or symbolism,
hawthorn in bloom carries a certain presence 🌸

Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or just a little out of balance lately? 🌿
Sometimes the answer isn’t complicated
Hawthorn is one of the most important herbs for the heart, used in herbal medicine for centuries to support both physical and emotional wellbeing
What makes it special is that every part of the plant can be used
🌸 The flowers and young leaves, often called “may tops”, are used in spring and are known for their gentle, tonifying effect on the heart and circulation
🍒 The berries, appearing later in the year, are richer and often used for deeper, longer-term support of cardiovascular health
Traditionally, hawthorn has been used to: – support circulation
– gently regulate blood pressure
– calm the nervous system
– provide support during times of stress, grief, or emotional tension
Modern research reflects many of these uses
Studies have shown that hawthorn contains flavonoids and antioxidant compounds (such as oligomeric procyanidins) which may help improve blood flow, support heart function, and protect the cardiovascular system
One well-known clinical study found that hawthorn extract improved symptoms of chronic heart failure and increased exercise tolerance when used alongside standard treatment
What makes hawthorn unique is how it works
not quickly, but slowly and consistently — supporting the heart over time
And right now… it’s blooming everywhere 🌸

Most people walk past this tree every day and don’t realise what it is… 🌿

Right now, hawthorn is in bloom — often called the “May tree” and deeply connected to this time of year

Traditionally used as a heart remedy, hawthorn has been worked with for centuries to support circulation, emotional balance, and overall wellbeing

In folklore, it was seen as a sacred tree, associated with Beltane and the threshold between worlds

It’s one of those plants that feels quiet…
but carries a lot of depth

I’ve written a full guide on hawthorn — its benefits, uses, and folklore — if you’d like to explore it further 🌸

Hello May 🌿
The land is fully awakening now
hedgerows beginning to bloom
and the energy shifting into something softer, fuller, more alive
Hawthorn blossoms opening 🌸
horse chestnut rising tall
a quiet reminder that we’ve crossed into the season of growth
This time of year has long been marked by Beltane (May 1st) —
an ancient fire festival celebrating fertility, vitality, and the transition into summer 🔥
A time when the veil feels a little thinner
and the natural world a little more present
Now, herbs are beginning to appear all around us —
hawthorn in bloom, lemon balm and mint growing fresh and vibrant, nettle still strong and nourishing, with dandelion and daisies scattered across the land, and sweet woodruff quietly weaving through shaded spaces
And just behind them, elderflower, rose, and linden preparing to emerge
May carries the energy of expansion, connection, and soft transformation
A time to work gently with what is already growing around you
No rush
just noticing
just working with the season 🌸

Did you know that dandelion is a versatile plant? The leaves can be eaten in salads, blanched into meals, and dried for teas. The flowers can be used in syrups or infused into nourishing skin oil.
The root on the other can be roasted into coffee alternative or dried for tea. It support digestion and liver function, which is great for hormone imbalance, detox or IBS.

Last Friday’s New Moon 🌑
I kept things simple…
a simmer pot with rosemary, clove, orange, cinnamon, and mint
Letting the warmth fill the space,
clearing, softening, resetting
Each ingredient bringing something different:
🌿 rosemary for protection
🍊 orange for abundance
✨ clove and cinnamon for warmth and protection
🌿 mint for removing obstacles
A small ritual,
but sometimes that’s all you need
to mark a new beginning 🌙

Did you know dandelion root can be used as a coffee alternative? 🌼
Roasted dandelion root has a rich, slightly bitter flavour and is naturally caffeine-free.
I bought mine from UK company but you can make your own.
Traditionally, it’s used to support digestion and liver function,
making it a gentle option for daily rituals
I like to have it with oat milk for something a little more grounding ☕
Would you try this? 🌿
