Integrated Neurological Services Living well with a neurological condition: Lifelong rehabilitation & therapy in Richmond and Hounslow

INS has been working for over 30 years in Hounslow and Richmond to support adults living with neurological conditions, and their carers, to access long-term, professional and peer support in the community, helping them to manage symptoms, increase independence and live well with their condition. Our team of professional therapists (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therap

y), trained counsellors, therapy assistants, activity co-ordinators and volunteers) work in different locations, as well as online, to give our service users the skills, strategies and support to manage their condition and help them stay connected with their social and community networks. We can provide the affordable, ongoing neurological care and rehabilitation, which is not available on the NHS, to help people improve their condition or prevent it from deteriorating. Our multidisciplinary team provides holistic therapy, social and emotional support tailored to people’s individual rehabilitation needs and goals. Neurological conditions can be life-changing if they cause long-term disability and affect people’s ability to live independently. At INS, we assess the whole person before providing services and support to help with physical, cognitive and communication issues and improve people’s independence, confidence and social participation. We offer support for as long as needed, often over many years. Help and advice is also available for family carers, many of whom have health issues of their own.

This week is MS Awareness Week, and this year MS Society UK and Multiple Sclerosis Trust are asking us all to challenge assumptions about MS. We're highlighting stories from our MS Peer Support group members about the assumptions and misconceptions they have faced around their condition, and the harm these assumptions can cause.

Today Adil has shared his story of MS Unseen. You can watch Adil speaking at the Hounslow Council celebration of International Day of Persons with Disabilities here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?si=tSJFHG243ZKgRq2a&v=tn9CXd2_PA0&feature=youtu.be

Our MS Peer Support Group meets online on the last Thursday of every month. If you have Multiple Sclerosis and live in Richmond, and would like to join the group, please complete a referral via our website: https://bit.ly/42jzo2u

Last year we had the privelege of being visited by Hampton Fund, who featured our work in a short film. Watch the video to hear CEO Sarah Vines speak about the ethos of INS and the work we do to provide holistic support in the community for people with neurological conditions and their carers, and to hear how INS has helped service users Bharti and Anil.

Featuring footage of one of our Parkinson's exercise groups, and chair-based dance exercise classes delivered by Move into Wellbeing

We would like to say a huge thank you to Hampton Fund for supporting INS, and for showcasing our impact in this video.

As a local charity supporting adults with neurological conditions and their unpaid carers, we see every day the difference carers make, and the challenges they face.

Because of this, we're proud to pledge our support for London Borough of Richmond upon Thames new Adult & Young Unpaid Carers’ Charter, which sets out clear commitments to valuing and supporting unpaid carers across the borough of Richmond.

We’re pledging our support to carers, to help ensure that every carer is respected, recognised, and supported to live well and thrive.

"INS has changed my life... Every time I’ve had a meeting with whoever at INS, I just feel full refreshed and hope for the future."

James featured in our latest newsletter, where he wrote about how the INS team have been supporting him through counselling, occupational therapy, and more.

He also wrote about the work he's been doing around using the train with INS Occupational Therapist Claire, who leads our Travel with Confidence project, aimed at supporting people with neuro disabilities to access public transport. The project is generously supported by the Motability Foundation

You can read James' story and more in our winter newsletter: https://www.ins.org.uk/news
