Integrated Neurological Services Living well with a neurological condition: Lifelong rehabilitation & therapy in Richmond and Hounslow

INS has been working for over 30 years in Hounslow and Richmond to support adults living with neurological conditions, and their carers, to access long-term, professional and peer support in the community, helping them to manage symptoms, increase independence and live well with their condition. Our team of professional therapists (physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy), trained counsellors, therapy assistants, activity co-ordinators and volunteers) work in different locations, as well as online, to give our service users the skills, strategies and support to manage their condition and help them stay connected with their social and community networks. We can provide the affordable, ongoing neurological care and rehabilitation, which is not available on the NHS, to help people improve their condition or prevent it from deteriorating. Our multidisciplinary team provides holistic therapy, social and emotional support tailored to people’s individual rehabilitation needs and goals. Neurological conditions can be life-changing if they cause long-term disability and affect people’s ability to live independently. At INS, we assess the whole person before providing services and support to help with physical, cognitive and communication issues and improve people’s independence, confidence and social participation. We offer support for as long as needed, often over many years. Help and advice is also available for family carers, many of whom have health issues of their own.

Next month on Saturday 11th October, team 'MND Over Matter', a group of 16 intrepid walkers, will be taking on the Kent Downs 50km Ultra Challenge, with the goal of raising £10,000 for Integrated Neurological Services.

The team are friends of David Young, an INS service user. Since David’s diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease, he and his friends have dedicated themselves to taking on fundraising challenges in support of organisations helping people affected by the condition.

We're delighted that this year David and the team have chosen to raise funds for INS, to help us continue to provide long-term, specialist support for people in Hounslow and Richmond who are living with a neuro condition, together with their carers.

“I look forward to connecting with the team at INS at my weekly visits and being able to, for example, access gym classes which otherwise would be beyond me. The team are hugely supportive and the community spirit they engender amongst all the service users amazes me every visit.”

Joining the team for the challenge is INS Exercise Lead Paul Underwood, who many of our service users will know from exercise and Open Gym sessions.

Please help us cheer team MND Over Matter on and support them to reach their goal by donating today: https://www.justgiving.com/page/david-young-5

We want to thank The National Lottery Community Fund for their project grant of £13,500, awarded in September 2024, which has helped our Hounslow service users with neuro conditions to access ongoing community support.

This funding contributed to weekly exercise and communication groups at our satellites in Brentford and Feltham until December 2024, followed by further support, which is still
ongoing, for a range of therapy and activity sessions (including exercise, communication,
social and creative groups) at our Twickenham base.

Thank you to all the players who made this possible.

Move into Wellbeing instructor Chris recently visited our Barnes satellite to deliver a chair-based dance taster session to our group members. As with all Move into Wellbeing sessions, the taster was hugely popular and enjoyed by everyone who took part 🌟

We would like to say a huge thank you to Chris, who has been a fantastic instructor at our regular sessions in Twickenham. We look forward to offering more Move into Wellbeing courses at our premises in Twickenham from September.

We had a great time at the Sport Parkinson's Try-Athlon 2025 on Sunday, where Sarah (CEO and Clinical Lead) and Caroline (Physiotherapist) got to meet lots of new people and organisations, and learn about the exciting initiatives and activities taking place across the UK for people with Parkinson's.

It's : a time to celebrate the estimated 6 million unpaid carers in the UK, and recognise their important but often unseen work.

If you live in Hounlow or Richmond, and provide unpaid care for a family member or friend who has a neurological condition, INS can help with information and advice, counselling, exercise, and peer support opportunities.
Pictured are attendees at our Carers Coffee Morning, which meets monthly, and an education session that was hosted for Richmond carers in May.
