Jo runs 6 week Clinical Pilates Courses. She offers beginners, intermediate and ‘keep active’ Clinical Pilates classes to suit all ages and abilities. Classes are held on a Wednesday evening at Vibez Dance Studio, Woodley and on a Friday lunchtime at Twyford Health Club (you do not have to be a member of Twyford Health Club to attend the classes). Classes are kept small to ensure good levels of supervision and so that Jo can tailor the exercises to suit the class participants.
Pilates is an exercise approach developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates, after whom it was named. Joseph Pilates called his method ‘Contrology’. Pilates aims at improving the core strength, posture, flexibility, strength, endurance and body awareness. Pilates focuses on 7 key principles which are breathing, control, precision, routine, concentration, centring and flow.
Clinical Pilates tailors the experience to each individual. Exercises have been modified from Joseph Pilates original matwork exercises so as to suit people recovering from injury, post surgery or returning to fitness. As a Senior Physiotherapist with over 20 years experience Jo is able to use her skills to ensure the exercises are performed correctly and safely and to modify them if necessary.
Jo qualified as a Physiotherapist from Southampton University in 2001. She has worked since then extensively in the NHS and also in private practice. She has been teaching clinical pilates classes for 6 years and thoroughly enjoys teaching! Jo has 2 children and likes to keep herself fit by running, playing football and going to the gym.
